PowerPoint is a great tool for the classroom because it offers a variety of features. This presentation tools houses a verity of features, effects, and animations that no other presentation software can compare to. With PowerPoint’s ability to integrate pictures, sound, animation, and video all in a slide show, it can capture the attention of all types of learners. It is not only teacher centered, but also student centered. Teachers can create presentation to lead lessons and students can create presentations to showcase what they’re learning or create content based projects. Among its many features, PowerPoint can be shared electronically. It uses can extend beyond the regular classroom. Lesson idea implementation: The PowerPoint presentation will be used to introduce the lesson on plants. This presentation overviews the lesson in a way that is not too through to confuse the learner. After the PowerPoint, the teacher will then lead the class into a discussion about the topic to see if anyone has prior knowledge or any questions that need to be addressed. The class will then be split into groups to work on a project about plants. Each group will be instructed to make a PowerPoint presentation about a plant of their choosing. The slideshow will need to include pictures of the plant, labeled parts of the plant, and what the plant needs to survive. This project will involve the rest of class time and then for the next class, the groups will present their projects. A rubric will be used to guide the students when creating the PowerPoint. This rubric will also be used to give students feedback on the work so they know what they need to work on and what they excelled in. This type of project extends their learning into a higher level because not only are they utilizing PowerPoint, but they are also learning about all different kinds of plants. This type of knowledge can be useful in their future endeavors. Spring 2018_SJB Basic Productivity Tools (BPT) Reflective Practice: After designing this lesson idea, I have seen the many ways that PowerPoint can impact student learning. Learning how to utilize PowerPoint is an essential tool because of its popularity in the school system. It is an amazing presentation software that helps students learn in a new way. To further extend this lesson, the PowerPoints can be showcased on the teacher’s website so it can be viewed by parents, teachers, administrators, friends, etc. Another technology tool that could have been used is Microsoft Word. Students can not only create a PowerPoint presentation on plants, but also a paper.
