Activity
Instructions
1. Warm up activity: Character walk – This game should be played in a space where there is room to move
and walk about. The children walk around the space freely. When the teacher calls out one of the cards,
the students must become that character.
2. As a whole class we will discuss prior knowledge around drama and what being in role means for them.
Ideas will be recorded down on a shared brainstorm and left on display for students to see for the
remainder of the lesson.
3. Each student will be handed a picture card with an animal on it, this will be the animal that they will role
play as, I will call out a series of movements they will have to act out using movement and space.
4. Each student will then design a mask based on the animal from the card, this will be an ongoing project
with a variety of recourses such as feathers, paper and other special craft items, they will first start by
colouring in the mask with crayons (next session they will complete another element such as feathers or
glitter). They will continue working on these until the session is over.

Resources: Character walk cards, mask templates, animal cards, craft items, special box, crayons, A3 paper,
pens.
