1. There is a linear equation 3x + 4y = 9. It is given that it cuts the X-axis at (3, 0). Explain
what can be the total number of solutions for this linear equation?

2. “You go to a fruit shop. You buy ‘p’ kg of guavas and ‘q’ kg of pears. Price of one kg of
guavais Rs. 40 and price of one kg of pear is Rs. 70. You spend Rs. 290 on these
fruits.Write down it in a form of an equation.

3. A rat is trying to drink milk from a jar by putting pebbles inside it . Given that volume of the
jar is 200 ml. If the rat requires 10 similar pebbles to get the milk till the brim of jar, Write
downan equation to find the volume of each pebble corresponding to volume of milk
available in the jar? Assume that volume of each pebble is p and volume of milk in the jar is
m.
4. Ben’s house is located at a point (−7, 0) and his club is located at point (7, 6) on the
coordinate plane. He has two choices of linear paths which follow the equations 3𝑥− 7𝑦 +
21 = 0 and 2𝑥− 5𝑦 + 14 = 0. Suggest which path should he take to reach the club?

5. A cash register contains $5 bills and $10 bills with a total value of $350. If there are 46 bills
total, then calculate how many of each does the register contain?

6. There’s a boy and girl travelling on a boat to rescue people sinking on the other boat. They
are moving along the line x + 5y = 10. The coordinates of the sinking boat is ( 1, 2).Show
will they be able to locate them.
7. The sum of individual squares of three carton boxes (𝑥2+ 𝑦2 + 𝑧2 ) is 100. The sum of the
product of their weights taking two boxes together at a time i.e. 𝑥𝑦 + 𝑦𝑧 + 𝑧𝑥 is 150.
Calculate what will the weighing machine read if all the three boxes are kept on it at the
same time?
8. A telecom operator charges Rs. 1.4 for the first minute and then Rs. 0.9 per minute for
subsequent minutes of a call. If the duration of call is represented as x, and amount charged
is represented as y, write down the linear equation for this relationship.

9. If f( x) = x + 4 and g( x) = - 2 x – 1 ,
a) show that g ( f (3)) + f ( g (3))= - 8

b) If f (x) = - 5 , determine value of x

10. A shelf with three compartments has to be built with 63 ft of wood. The width of the shelf
needs to be 4 times that of its height. Calculate the dimensions of the shelf? (in ft)
