Welcome to the world of
Bohemian Interior Design!
Before we get into the video portion of this lecture,
I’d like to lay out the important general
characteristics of the Bohemian style:

• This is the ultimate eclectic style


• Demands individuality, so use guidelines only as guidelines
• Avoids coordinated furniture sets
• Mixes textures and patterns in a multi-layered approach

I will be elaborating on each of these areas in the


video portion of this lecture – enjoy!
Anything goes for furniture! Mix classic pieces with more
contemporary pieces, or use contemporary colors/prints on more
traditional pieces. . .
Victorian style antiques, and anything with an ethnic vibe,
work well in this style
Be sure to use
a lot of brightly
colored,
patterned
pillows in your
Bohemian
home
Consider foregoing
a headboard and,
instead, hanging a
large tapestry
behind the bed or
a billowy canopy
over the bed
A hammock chair is an iconic piece in a Bohemian space
Common Bohemian Materials/Elements:
Lots of wood, wrought iron, wicker, burlap, sisal, leather, silk,
velvet, cotton and linen blends
Sheepskin and other popular animal skins/furs are
commonly used
Common Bohemian Color Schemes:
Any colors go in this style!
Consider using a split triadic color scheme

• Mismatched furniture from different styles/time periods
