In the past 2018, the government restricted regulations on imported fruits to Indonesia.

This is intended to
reduce the volume of imported fruits in order to increase the consumption of local fruits. However, this turned
out to be fruitless.

Southeast Asian Food and Agriculture Science and Technology (SEAFAST) Center from Institut Pertanian
Bogor (IPB) said that the consumption of fruits and vegetables in Indonesian society is still low, even below
the standards of the World Food Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The consumption of Indonesian fruit and vegetables is only 180 grams per capita per day, while the WHO
standard is 400 grams per capita per day.

The government encourages people to consume fruits and vegetables regularly. Through Presidential
Regulation No. 42 of 2013 concerning the National Nutrition Improvement Movement explained that the
health priority is to tackle the problem of community nutrition, especially toddlers through awareness of
consuming fruits and vegetables.

According to Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) the chances of swift imports of fruit are very large. Moreover, for
imported fruits that are not produced or widely available in Indonesia such as apples, grapes, pears, and
lemons.

Central Bureau of Statistics (Badan Pusat Statistik) recorded the fruit import value for the period of January-
September 2018 amounting to USD 908.5 million, up 11.5% compared to the same period in 2017 which
amounted to USD 814.8 million.

The Chairman of the Indonesian Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association or Asosiasi Eksportir Sayur dan
Buah Indonesia (AESBI) assessed that the increase in fruit imports occurred because Indonesian people
preferred imported fruit rather than locally produced fruit. This happens because the development of imported
fruit varieties is more than domestic fruit products.

But a different view was expressed by the General Chairman of the Association of Importers of Fresh Fruits
and Vegetables of Indonesia or Asosiasi Eksportir Importir Buah dan Sayuran Segar Indonesia
(ASEIBSSINDO). The chairman said the volume of imported fruits was actually declining. However, the value
increased rapidly due to the increase in the value of the rupiah against the US dollar.

Based on the explanation shown above, it can be said that the prospect of demand for imported fruit is still
large. This shows that the prospects for the fruit business are still good and are expected to increase in 2019.

However, it is necessary to anticipate changes in regulations that refer to restrictions or restrictions on the
import of fruit.
