Long answer ahead—

I scored 676 in NEET UG 2018 with an AIR 13 (UR 11)

I would start from class 10….actually I was from WBBSE (not CBSE) and got 95.86%
,coming 13th in State .From the very beginning I was known to many ones as a studious guy
with a good conceptual mindset and this result was actually a bit disappointing to me …
However as the +2 course is really vast and the time is relatively shorter , I started class 11
with pretty high determination .

Ok,let u know some strange facts about myself—

1. Unlike many medicos , I had not any typical passion for this field at the beginning .
I had also maths ; cleared NTSE STAGE 1 and 2 …
2. I had literally no classroom coaching in Class 11….only had Aakash dlp
series and had not so much idea about the success of Allen right then (Believe
me I’m not joking).
3. Even it is more hilarious that in 11 my preference order in subjects were
:Chemistry>Maths>Physics>Bio…so u can imagine how frustrated I was …
4. When I went to the exam center for NTSE Stage 2,I first came to know
about KVPY SA, self-studied for the rest months and got selected for interview …
and secured an AIR 284 in KVPY SA 2016–17( it is not so decent but enough to
fetch a seat in IISC,Bangalore and with coaching and proper guidance I’m sure
it would be better)
5. I had not attempted a single full-length practice test in whole 11,except
some part-tests in a local coaching center, total 11 was invested in concept building
and application through problems ,
6. NCERT BIOLOGY IS THE BIBLE FOR NEET— who doesn’t know it! And I
neglected it whole 11…rather practising 18k questions in a month xD
However, hopefully till the end of 11, I strenghtened the concepts in Physics and
Chemistry,by practising from preferred books,…

First forward to 12, and I slowly grew interest in Bio ! Thanks to my new Biology
teacher. He first made me understood how much important NCERT is for NEET ; and
from this time I actually started reading NCERT Bio line by line, word to word…. (pretty late
huh! ).He first said me about the Allen Online Test Seriesand I joined it…my preference
order changed :Chem>Bio>Physics>Math. But still the problems and distractions didn’t
leave—

1. I attempted first minor test on 28th December 2017!!! The time between the
commencement of Class 12 and the month of November was possibly the hardest
time for me….I was without any kind of motivation ,spent hours after hours
solving problems in Chemistry (almost addicted to organic and physical ) ,still to
finish inorganic ;Bio starts becoming boring than ever with the entrance
of Ecology and that Chapter 8 : and most unnaturally optics was trying
immensely to minimise my love for Physics. Meanwhile
attempted NSEC,NSEP,NSEB but could not qualify ( I still regret ) .In that Allen
test ,scored 630/720 with a rank 12… completely dumbstruck to see people scoring
full 720!
2. In the 2nd one , got 660 with a rank 10 … but in 3rd , sudden drop to 570and a
rank beyond 50!!! in 4th the scenario worsened… same number and a rank >100!
I understood that I had to brush up the concepts..mainly in Physics of Class 11….
3. Almost a month passed— attempted the 5th with Ecology in Bio Part …
got 660 with rank<10 , hardened the preparation… 680 with rank <5 in
the 6th and thats all before the boards … without still a major test
4. The boards went and me: Abe ab to major wala de , 4 hafta hi baaki hai
bc .. the WBJEE was on 22nd April (meanwhile I attempted 2–3 more minors)
and I was thinking of not attending the exam. It was also a Allen All India Open
Test on that day..Although I had not enough preparation to sit for the exam ,it was
far better than WBJEE at least ;-p . So at last I attempted the Allen wala ,
got 575 with a rank near 150 .the major turning point .Started severe
preparation ,working my ass off.. next All India Open Test ,marks nearly same
,rank worsened .One week left…
5. The most memorable week of my life till date ..from 6 Allen minor tests
before boards ,ended up completing the total test series except the quarter tests ,,
gave 10 tests (mainly major) in 6 days … slowly the marks increased and the ranks
lowered .I still remember the final test which I gave on the day before the D-
Day and I got 650/720 in my last preparation test.
6. The D-Day : after exam , checked the answer key of Allen— Score showing 671
, CBSE Answer key released : 5 more in Physics :676 ,
7. Result Day : expected AIR <50 ,got 13… Got MAMC,New Delhi in the
counselling .
So I had many distractions in this 2 years ,and I am from such a town where many ones
simply don't know the difference between NEET and AIIMS admission ,but at the end of the
day my self-study made me successful in my mission, with literally no coaching .

Some points worth mentioning -

 I had not attempted too many tests-it doesn't mean I was not preparing hard . Till
December 2017, the books were my real friends and the tests thereafter made me
aware of the grade of my preparation and indicated the need for development.
 I still regret for not studying NCERT Chemistry textbook for the last 3 chapters
( I read them from others) otherwise the Polymer Question might not get wrong
:-p
Oops, soo long , however it's my first answer in Quora. Sorry for any Grammatical mistakes .
Edits are welcome.

Finally all the best to all future NEET Aspirants
