On drum techniques and notation:

Fingers, at the edge, halfway between the center and the edge of
the drum, and at the center. When marked with trem., use thumb
and fourth finger to create soft sustain.

Knock the center of the drum with knuckles. Let resonate.

Strike drum with timpani mallet.


When followed by line, exert pressure with elbow or fingers on
the drum to bend pitch up or down, as indicated.

Wet finger roll, using one’s middle fingers across the drum. Bring
out harmonics.

Play drum with thick nylon brushes, dragging the brush in a long
single stroke until the end of the duration.

Create a delicate, pattern-less swishing sound with the nylon


brushes.

The voice part should be realized as heightened speech — not quite singing, but contoured as if so.
