China’s Uneven Population distribution:


- Collect series of maps and data to help explain China’s uneven population
distribution
- Annotate the maps and data with the reasons why the distribution is uneven

Eastern part of China have a lower
population that lives in Poverty In order to
earn more money, many Chinese migrate
internally to mega cities like Beijing to look
for job opportunities.
Migrant workers travel back to their
villages between jobs or for the harvest
and send 90% of their salary to their
families who rely on this income to survive.
Rural migrants earn lower wages than
urban residents, surviving on an average of
540 yuan ($80) per month in 2004,
compared to 1,350 yuan for registered
urban residents.

In the map on the left, the internal
migration flow in China is clearly shown.
The large arrows that represent large
volume of flows pointed mostly towards
coastal regions like Guangdong and the
Zhejiang provinces. Arrows also point
towards Beijing, the capital of China.
