“Proposals for Impact Assessment Studies of the CSR projects”

Maruti Suzuki’s (MSIL) CSR Projects are focused on following thematic
areas: Community Development, Skill Development and Road
Safety.

Community Development
Water: To provide the community with access to safe drinking water,
MSIL has set up automated water dispensing units (Water ATMs) which
provide communities with potable water at nominal rate.

Sanitation: To provide a hygienic environment in the adopted villages,

MSIL has undertaken solid and liquid waste management initiatives
such as laying of sewer lines, construction of household toilets and
household waste collection and disposal. Behavioral change
communication and awareness drives are integrated into project
execution.

Common community assets: MSIL is committed to improving the

overall quality of life in the villages. MSIL has constructed and renovated
community halls and paved roads based on the needs of the community.

Education: The MSIL strives to enhance the enrollment, retention and

learning levels of students in the government schools in the adopted
villages. Support teachers have been engaged for mathematics, science
and English, and teacher training is undertaken regularly in partnership
with the Councils of Educational Research and Training. Teaching aids
such as projectors have been provided to make teaching and learning
more interactive and joyful. Other initiatives include renovation of
classrooms, installation of blackboards, ensuring availability of drinking
water and construction of toilets.

Skill Development

With the world’s largest youth demographically, there is a mismatch

between the industry requirements and the skill sets of the youth in India.
Focused to fill this skill gap and aligning with the vision of Skill India
Mission, MSIL is undertaking the following programs to equip the youth
with the required skills to participate and be a part of India’s growing
economy:

1. Up gradation of Government ITIs

2. Skill enhancement in automobile trades:
3. Japan India Institute for Manufacturing, Mehsana:
4. Japan India Institute for Manufacturing, Uncha Majra

Road Safety
Multiple initiatives have been introduced by MSIL to encourage citizens
towards safe driving. Providing skills, knowledge and attitudinal inputs to
both road users and road drivers MSIL has reached out to key
stakeholders since the year 2000. MSIL is undertaking the following
programs:

Automated driving test centres:

Technology-driven traffic management system:
Driving training programmes:

Midline assessments are carried out in the middle of the intervention to ensure that the project is
moving in the right trajectory and to identify the key challenges and achievements of the program. It
aids in course correction and seeks to undertake reparative measures and also acts as a tool to
understand the project status. A midline assessment uses comparisons to baseline data, and assesses
the impact by measuring key indicators over a period of time.

Outline India, the parent company of Track Your Metrics, has undertaken multiple midline
assessments, namely in the sectors of education and health.

The Midline Evaluation

At midpoint of the intervention, Tiphunzire wishes to obtain rigorous evidence to inform a
review of its impact, relevance, effectiveness, value-for-money and sustainability of the project.
To move forward, the project also wishes to understand the key implementation and contextual
barriers to improving the learning of marginalized girls in their intervention schools. This
midline study reports on the main findings and recommendations and uses a mixed-methods
approach in the appraisal of programme-level evaluation questions.
