Selling and marketing are a lot like fishing in a way. You need to go where the fish
are, and you need to know what bait works with each type of fish. Timing is important
too… when they’re biting that is great! There are a few more parallels, but I think you
see my point. If you are simply taking a day off and letting your line drop in the water
while you daydream or relax, any old hook or bait will work.
If however, you are hungry… you’d be more inclined to research your fish and its
characteristics, preferences and places of interest. You might even be willing to have
more than one pole in play, using several different baits and hooks. Cause… you want
to eat! Works like that in business, if you want to survive and be profitable.
In addition to my off-line marketing, I’ve launched out into the deeper waters. I have

In each case, I have selected my bait and put my lines in the water. These tested
(#745) tactics are helping me save time (#685).
Investing time learning some new sales words and phrases might just jumpstart your
sales efforts. Learning and strategically applying the words that catch people’s attention
and compel them to investigate what you have to offer, and to actually buy or engage
your services, is time well spent.
These phrases pulled in orders. Some of them are a bit shop worn… but creative
marketers can recycle and revisit concepts in creating new ones. Use some of your filler
time to learn a few more, and understand why they work. Figure out which ones fit the
best with what you have to offer, and learn how to use them appropriately. See your

Award winning kitchen designer (retired), Bob Hooey, CKD-Emeritus is one of 75 Canadian kitchen
