Illness and Injury Policy & Procedure

LWG is committed to promoting the good health of the children within our care.
As part of this commitment we will take necessary steps to prevent the spread of
infection, and take appropriate steps when children in our care are ill.
At least one member of school or facility staff with a current paediatric first aid
certificate will be on the premises at all times when children are present.
LWG Staff will be encouraged to obtain these and other first aid skills.
LWG staff will attend First aid training approved by the Local authority and is
consistent with guidance set out in the Practice Guidance for the Early Years
Foundation Stage.
Good Hygiene
All staff and children will be encouraged at all times to take part in effective hand
washing with a mild antibacterial agent after using the toilet, before handling
food and after playing or coming in from outside.
Following good hygiene practise, LWG staff must wear protective clothing
(disposable aprons and gloves) when clearing any spilled bodily fluids in
accordance with our Health & Safety policy
Absence due to Illness
If your child is unwell and unable to attend a LWG session, please telephone us
as soon as possible to inform us on. 0796220900 or
Learningwithgames@yahoo.com
We will require details of the illness, particularly if it is contagious, in case we
need to inform the school or facility who will in turn inform other necessary
parents.
If a child is absent due to illness, or leaves early due to illness, it will be marked
in the register and other Arrival and Departure policies will be followed.
Children Who Become Unwell
Children who are otherwise normally well and have become unwell may be
advised not to attend that session of LWG, to ensure that other children’s health
is not affected.
If a child is absent from school due to illness they may not attend the LWG
session.
If a child becomes unwell whilst in our care, we will contact parent/carer/guardian
immediately to ensure that the child is collected as soon as possible following
protocol.
If a child becomes unwell whilst in our care and cannot be collected, it may be
necessary to take them into a quiet area away from the other children as much
as possible. If staffing resources do not permit the child to be cared for safely,
LWG Management must be contacted immediately for advice. The completion of
an incident form is necessary and all other protocols will be followed as per our
accident and incident policy.
Please refer to LWG Accident & Incident Record if child’s illness should require
hospital treatment. In such cases an incident report must be completed and
reported to the relevant authorities.
In the unlikely event of a child getting food poisoning at LWG we would notify
Ofsted in writing within 14 days detailing date and circumstances.
Child’s return following illness
Please keep in touch with the school in regard to the progress of your child.
We follow individual school and facility policies with regards to these terms, their
conditions must be satisfied to return to any LWG session.
If a child has become unwell with a reportable disease or has seen their GP for
treatment, it may be necessary to wait for confirmation from the GP to ensure
they are well enough to return, this is to ensure the protection of all children and
staff’s health.
If your child has suffered from sickness/diarrhoea, they must usually be free from
symptoms for 48 hrs and be eating normally again before returning to School , to
minimise the risk of infection to other children and staff.
A child can return to LWG sessions 24 hrs after having a temperature, providing
there are no other symptoms.
