Classroom expectations will be highlighted at the beginning of the lesson to show respect
● Everyone has the right to be heard and respected.
● The conversation stays in the room
● We will use language that won’t offend or upset other people.
● We won’t share our own, or our friends’, personal experiences.
● We won’t judge or make assumptions about anyone
● We listen to each other and respect one another whilst we are talking
Expectations are highlighted at the beginning of the class to ensure students know and understand what's
expected of them, which gives them confidence. Students monitor themselves and take more responsibility for their
behavior and perhaps maybe set classroom goals around personal behavior.
Procedure: Students are to consider the statement on the board and answer the question
Task 1:
Recap of last week
- what did we look at?
- Why do you think we looked at this?
- How did this make you feel?
Procedure: To understand the nature of addiction and how problems can arise from using screen time to
often, we will put them through an activity to generate awareness.
Task 1: Students will be asked to get a math’s game up on their laptop that they will enjoy playing. Half way
through this I will ask them to stop what they are doing and ask them a group of questions.
After stopping the game in the middle, they will be assessed a series of questions;
o How did that make you feel?
o Did it upset you?
o If you were at home would this affect you?
o What would you do if a family member needed to use the computer or electronic device that you wanted to
use? Or what could you do?
If you can’t go all day without screens, then set a time when all devices are put down, such as from 5pm to 7pm
every night. And stick to it, no matter how much they beg.
Task 1 Students are given an exit card to fill out which includes the following questions: Please see
(appendix 1) for visual of exit card
Once all students are completed they are asked to place their exit cards in a box at the front of the classroom. I will
then read and assess how students have gone in the class and how much knowledge was gained. This is a helpful
tool to assess if students are on track and will be utilised throughout the entirety of the unit to keep on top of
student progression.
Recognize your strengths and take small steps. Reflect on your successes and failures.
2: Do you have any questions from today? Or is there an activity you would like to do next lesson?
1: What did you do well in health class today? Is there anything you could do better next time?
you feel?
