Teaching Learning Plan 2.1

Subject: Science 9 Quarter: First

Teacher: Shielo Marie C. Cardines Time frame: 6 hrs

Topics

References:
1. Work text in Science and Technology ,Science Links
2. Experiencing Science :An Activity –based Worksheet for Grade 9

Materials: manila paper, pentel pen, video clip (flash drive), LCD projector

Learning Competencies:
 explain the formation of ionic and covalent bonds; S9MT-IIa-13

 recognize different types of compounds (ionic or covalent) based on their properties such as melting point,
hardness, polarity, and electrical and thermal conductivity; S9MT-IIb-14

Objectives:
1. explain the formation of ionic and covalent compounds
2. recognize the different types of compounds (ionic or covalent )from their properties such as melting point ,hardness
,polarity and electrical and thermal conductivity
3.explain properties of metals in terms of their structure.

Day 1
Introduction
Coming together
The students will act as positive ion (cation) or a negative ion (anion) and they will form bonds with the others since you
don’t want to exist alone. With that ,make a print out of an ion of your choice and they will move around the classroom
to find ions that they can bond with for five minutes. They will make bonding as many as possible but they should bear
in mind that bonding happens only to oppositely charged ions. While finding the ion ,they will ask the question “Can I
bond with you “? If the answer is Yes write down the combination that you have created in the following table.

Day 3
Concept application:

The students are now assigned a particular planet with different conditions. Given what they have learned
about adaptation and evolution, they must draw a creature that could survive these conditions. Each creature must
have an explanation of what it eats and how, defensive abilities, etc. Note: if there is not enough time, this could be a
homework assignment or perhaps be done the next class.

Eg: This planet is dark and cold; it is very mountainous and rainy. Because of the wet, dark conditions, the only
plants that grow well are small mosses and funguses. Animals on this planet include a type of mouse, a nocturnal
hunting large cat, fish, and a variety of insects.

Day 4
Review/Evaluation:

The teacher will evaluate the students’ performance and understanding of concepts through their concept
application activity which will be evaluated based on their ‘creature’ as well as the explanation of the creature. In
addition, “what if” questions could be used, such as how would your creature have to adapt to volcanic eruptions, global
warming, human impacts, etc. (Or what could happen if these events occur).

Day 5-6

Anticipation Guide
 Play a movie about Photosynthesis
 And challenge the students to create a three-panel comic strip that depicts their understanding of
photosynthesis .Refer to the format below.

Scavengers Hunt
Using the internet , have the students visit some web sites to learn more about how cells make and use energy.Be
sure to answer the following questions as you explore the concepts.
a. How do plants and animals obtain energy?
b. In what organelle does the process of photosynthesis occur?
c. In what organelle does the process of respiration occur?
d. In what type of cells do photosynthesis and respiration takes place?
e. Why are animal cells not capable of carrying out photosynthesis?
