♥ Proverbs
A proverb is a short sentence often repeated, expressing a well known truth or fact.
The book of Proverbs gives many examples of how to apply wisdom to your daily life.

The key verse:

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and
instruction. Proverbs 1:7

What does it mean to have “fear of the Lord?”

The fear of the Lord is to hate ___________: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way,
and the froward mouth, do I hate. Proverbs 8:13

Look up in a dictionary:

Evil: ________________________________________________________________

If we hate evil and it’s ways then we open ourselves up to knowledge.

Who was Solomon?

Solomon was born around 900 BC. He became King of Israel at age 12 by his father,
King David, just before his death. Look up the following verse and write down what
advice his father gave him before he appointed him king.

1 Kings 2:3 ___________________________________________________________

What did Solomon ask God for?

Solomon had a huge abundance of money, power and fame. More than any twelve year
old could possibly need. What he didn’t have was the confidence and wisdom needed
to rule the people of Israel.

The Bible tells us that God appeared to Solomon in a dream asking him “What shall I
give you?” Look up and read 1 Kings 3:5

Solomon answered: 1 Kings 3:9 ___________________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________

And God said unto him, Because thou has asked this thing, and has not asked for thy-
self long life; neither has asked riches for thyself, nor has asked the life of thine ene-
mies; but has asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment; Behold, I have
done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart;
so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto
thee. 1 Kings 3:11-12

Solomon is known as the wisest person who ever lived. You may not be a king who
rules over a nation of people, but God can give you the wisdom needed to make good
choices for your own life.

People came all over the world to hear his wisdom. 1 Kings 10:24

People came from all over the world to listened to Solomon.

1 Kings 4:29-34: “And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding
much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore.
And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country,
and all the wisdom of Egypt.
For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and
Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round about.
And he spoke three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five. And
he spoke of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that
sprang out of the wall: he spoke also of beasts, and of fowl, and of creeping things,
and of fishes.
And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the
earth, which had heard of his wisdom.”
