what is the Compensation for Class II?
teeth cannot incise if they are upright, tongue will push lower incisors forward & lip on upper will
push upper incisor back --- thus we see dental compensations skeletal malocclusion
Compensation for class III?
teeth will move back in lower arch & incline forward in upper to max that they can [ within
biological limits]

psuedo class III: lower incisors lean forward


what is " decompensation"?
undoing the compensation

Ex. Class III: put teeth upright on basal bone [ Tweed's upright IMPA] , should be 90 degrees,
upright on mandibular plane [ need to decompensate if they are compensated]
Decompensation for Class II>
decompensate by taking upper incisors forward & taking lower back - gives leeway to surgeon
to make correction
What is camouflage?
- hide malocclusion
-NOT correcting skeletal problem or altering skeletal patter
-can be acceptable form treatment depending severity proble,

-camouflaging skeletal issues by dental changes only

Class III: take lower incisors back & upper incisor forward
when is arch form decided?
during eruptions & development by genetics

[ size, space , etc. ] & some based on muscle forces


what are some things " outside of arch " that influences arch form?
buccinator mechanism [ buccinator m., orbicularis oris, superior constrictor, envelopes dentition
from outside
what are " inside things" that affects arch form?
tongue, tongue position from inside [ high, low, forward, back], will dictate how arch form will
develop
