INSIGHTS INTO TRUCKING AND TRANSPORTATION (SECTION 4)

Sample The Philippines Logistics Market - Sample

INSIGHTS INTO TRUCKING AND TRANSPORTATION 10

• The Philippines predominantly relies on waterways for transportation of cargo freight. However, the improvement of road transport infrastructure is critical for
strengthening the logistics service sector of the country. The country has seen modest improvement in the overall freight transport service, but a large part of the
road network remains in poor condition and intermodal integration is low.

• In 2015, the Philippine highway network had a total length of 19,162.72 kilometers of concrete roads, 9,756.45 kilometers of asphalt roads, 3,636.96 kilometers of
gravel roads, and 77.24 kilometers of earth roads.

• The main cities consists of fairly good network of roads and railways, but the small roads and huge population have led to high traffic congestion. As a result, the
movement of people, goods, and services is becoming increasingly difficult in few cities.

• The major cause of the overall low quality of the road network, is poor and inadequate maintenance, which is a result of insufficient financial resources being made
available for maintenance, and inadequate institutional capacity of agencies responsible for road maintenance. The government plans to remedy this by bringing in
foreign players, to invest in the transport infrastructure of the country.

• Trucking logistic companies need to efficiently use high-capacity roads and direct routes that connect the origin of goods to their intermediate and final
destinations. The government has plans to connect North Luzon and South Luzon, through an expressway, which will encourage truckers and freight forwarders to
detour from the inner roads of Metro Manila, while transporting their cargos.

• Majority of the global logistic companies outsource their trucking service. The trucking logistic industry in the country was dominated majorly by local players, but
high growth of the logistic market has caused interest in a number of foreign players, and as such these players are forming joint ventures, to cater to the needs of
a technologically advanced and an efficient transport logistic service.

• The top five trucking services provided by local players in Philippines are house transfer, office transfer, hauling contractors, warehouse transfer, and catering
event transport.

INSIGHTS INTO SHIPPING CARRIERS AND AGENCIES 13

• The Philippines has one of the longest coastline in the world of 36,289 Kms. The coastline extends 2,000 Km from the north to south, about 25 cities of the country
lie on the coast, about 60% of the population of the country lives in the costal zones. There are a number of ports in the country, due to its geography, few among
the prominent ports that account for the major share of volumes of cargo/container throughput are Manila, Southern Luzon, Northern Mindanao, Southern
Mindanao, and Visayas.

• The total container traffic for 2017 increased by 53% to XX million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) from XX million TEUs a year earlier. Foreign container traffic,
has registered a Y% increase in container volume to XX million TEUs, from 3.538 million TEUs in 2016, wherein export containerized traffic went up by Z%, and
import container traffic posted a modest 10% increase from 2016. Total cargo volume, on the other hand, registered an growth of 0.81% in the year 2017 to 227.312
million metric ton, from 225.495 million metric ton in 2016.

• Manila North Harbor Port is the fastest-growing maritime gateway for commerce in the country that accounts for about X% of the total container throughput volume
share. The port is undergoing complete transformation, offering effective container handling and terminal services. The port is considered to be the core of the
Philippine Port System and accounts for the largest throughput by cargo.

• The Port of Manila, has an effective flow and movement of commodities, due to the measures set in place, to ensure the smooth sailing movement of containers.
The number of anti-port congestion programs implemented has made the port free from congestion, unlike any other port in the country.

• Southern Luzon Port accounts for X% of the total cargo throughput volume in the country. Domestic cargo throughput accounts for about X% of the total throughput
volume in the port, which is about X million metric ton.

• Northern Mindanao accounts for X% of the total cargo throughput volume in the country. Foreign cargo throughput accounts for about X% of the total throughput
volume in the port, which is about X million metric ton.

• Southern Mindanao ports, consists mainly of Davao, General Santos and Cotabato. Southern Mindanao accounts for X% of the total cargo throughput volume in
the country, and Visayas accounts for 14.2% of the total cargo throughput volume in the country.

INSIGHTS INTO FREIGHT FORWARDING (SECTION 4)

Sample The Philippines Logistics Market - Sample

INSIGHTS INTO FREIGHT FORWARDING 16

• The Philippine freight forwarding industry is highly fragmented. Despite players being classified under one Pre-Shipment Inspection Certificate (PSIC), overseeing
agencies for different activities of the industry are varied. For instance, sea freight forwarders are under the jurisdiction of the Department of Trade and Industry
Philippines (DTI) while airfreight forwarders are under the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC).

• Global players dominate the Philippine air freight forwarding market. Nearly 95-98% of air freight flow happens through the global freight forwarders while local
players only manage to grab about 2-3% share of the entire market. Moreover, the domestic inter-island freight movement is quite low. However, in ocean freight
market some of the Philippines-based companies became even successful to mark their significance in the global market.

• The lack of technology and innovation processes in domestic firms is the key reason behind the dominance and growth of the global players. The opportunity for
establishing domestic economic zones is currently underutilized. Such zones are important to integrate the existing economic and Freeport zone activities within
the domestic economy. Most firms remain vulnerable to natural hazards and are unable to proactively manage the adverse effects.

• Climate-resilient and reliable infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, railways, airports, seaports, stable power supply, and internet connectivity, continue to be
inadequate in the Philippines.

• Causes of inefficiencies in the supply chain include red tape, unclear and redundant government regulations, non-standard implementation of policies, which have
translated into high transport costs in the Philippines.

• There is a restriction on foreign participation in the country, which leads to limited competition, investments, and trade. Despite significant increases over the last
six years, a comparison of net foreign direct investments (FDI) in selected ASEAN countries may show that, except for Thailand (USD4.8 billion), net FDI inflows to
the country (USD5.7 billion) were lower when compared with Singapore (USD65.3 billion), Indonesia (USD18.7 billion), and Malaysia (USD9.8 billion) in 2015.

• Improving the competitiveness of sectors, to reduce vulnerability to uncertainties in the global market, also continues to be a challenge. The slowdown in the global
economy, including the Philippines’ top trading partners Japan, European Union, the United States (US), and China, may affect the performance of the industry
and services, including trade, as exports are concentrated to few products and markets.

INSIGHTS INTO WAREHOUSING, INDUSTRIAL REAL ESTATE, AND ECONOMIC ZONES 19

• The industrial sector posted a 7.5% growth, the largest increase among the three major sectors spearheaded by growth in construction and manufacturing. This is
followed by services at 6.0% and agriculture, hunting, forestry, and fishing at 1.9%. The transport, storage, and communication grew at higher growth rates when
compared to 2013, at 6.6% compared to 5.6% while trade and repair of 104 motor vehicles, motorcycles, personal and household goods subsectors under services
grew to 6.0% compared to 5.7%, respectively.

• The Philippine central bank captures the number of foreign investments that have actually been invested in the country. The latest available data reveals that
manufacturing investments grew by 460% from USD 152 million in January to October 2016 to USD 852 million in the same period of 2017. Manufacturing now
accounts for one-third of total foreign investments in the country versus only 10% in 2016.

• The demand for warehousing in Cavite has depicted a significant rise, with vacancy declining from 9.3% to 7.9%. Over the past 12 months, most of the locators
that have committed to occupying manufacturing facilities or expanding operations were manufacturers of mobile communications equipment, computer
peripherals, and 3D printers. Close to half of the recently approved projects in Cavite include the establishment and operation of warehouses.

• Laguna continues to be the preferred industrial location, with its vacancy rate further declining to only 5.0% from 6.3% in 1H2017. Firms engaged in the
manufacture of hairdryers, semiconductor parts, hand pushcarts, and paper coffee cups have plans to build new facilities or ramp up operations. A couple of firms
will also build warehouses.

• Batangas’ vacancy rate was practically unchanged at 10.1% Despite this, the company is optimistic that Batangas’ industrial vacancy rate will improve over the
next 12-24 months, owing to the planned construction of warehouses in the province’s various industrial parks.

• About one-third of the recently approved projects cover warehousing and logistics services. The rest cover manufacture of packaging materials and energy-saving
lighting products, and assembly of different types of faucets.

INSIGHTS INTO VALUE-ADDED LOGISTICS MARKET IN THE PHILIPPINES – DEMAND FOR PROJECT LOGISTICS 22

• Over the past few years, the logistics sector had witnessed growth due to rising international trade volumes and increase in e-commerce activities driven by the rising
purchasing power of the customers. The surge in growth has mainly originated from expansion of express delivery services, along with third-party logistics. Domestic
factors, such as development of infrastructure, along with growth in the gross domestic product, have laid roots for the development of the logistics sector in the
Philippines. The logistics market in the Philippines consists of a large number of players, such as DHL, FedEx, UPS, Forex Cargo, and others, which cater to
international shipments. On the other hand, companies such as PHL Post, 2GO, Air21, and others, have captured the domestic market.

• The construction sector remains the best developed sector on the back of solid real estate development activity and also the government's Public-Private Partnership
program. The year 2016 saw good improvement in the construction sector, especially compared to Q4 of 2015 with Q4 of 2014. Infrastructure spending, however, had
lagged since the start of the decade. The current regime under President Duterte came in riding on the wave of infrastructure development, but it does face strong
political competition.

• The government's effort to streamline processes and improve infrastructural facilities has resulted in increased spending on the logistics market in the country. The key
indicator for the market growth in future will be the growth in e-commerce space, import and export activity, technological advancement to streamline all process of
logistics, along with surging investment in physical and logistics infrastructure.

• Retailers in the Philippines are searching for opportunities in the country’s active retail market, driven by an increase in the population’s disposable income. As the retail
sector expands, logistics is set to play a crucial role in supporting operational demands. Furthermore, dynamic changes in retail requirements are expected to put
pressure on global retailers who want to expand in developing economies, coping with the challenges of high-demand retailing in new environments. Demand for
improved end-to-end integrated logistics and speed-to-market will be critical to the rise in retail presence.

• Concerns due to the delay in the flow of parts and raw materials to its semiconductor factory in the Philippines, a leading electronics firm has chosen Agility set up a
vendor management program to improve consistency, thereby reducing costs. Agility coordinates with the customer’s vendors, freight forwarders, and brokers to
overcome late shipments, complications at ports and customs clearance delays. Maintaining warehouse inventories that match production schedules and just-in-time
delivery of parts and materials avoid costly delays at this factory that manufactures components found in products ranging from motor vehicles to consumer electronics.

INSIGHTS INTO E-COMMERCE FULFILMENT 25

• The Philippine e-commerce industry is anticipated to post healthy growth, which will boost the logistics
sector to augment to cope with demand for a smooth experience of operation from manufacturer to
retailer to customer.

• The company has been focusing in offering the retail supply chain solutions in the Philippines, since the
past fifteen years.

• Owing to e-commerce growth in the past, the company plans to flourish in the logistics industry.
Moreover, JDA is diversifying its product offerings in the Philippines from the local retail supply chain
solutions into more stimulating local logistics solutions to offer a smooth experience.

• The company’s retail supply chain solutions business in the Philippines contributed around 80% of its
business, whereas the logistics sector contributed only 20%. But the company’s transportation and
warehousing solutions can make logistics sector a very large component to the business.

• As of now, eight among the ten retailers in the Philippines are using the company’s retail solutions for a total of fifteen to sixteen retailers.

• In 2017, in an event, the company also offered Transport Management Solutions (TMS) for local logistics organizations, which would like to offer cost-efficient operation
and smooth experience.

• In Philippines, the logistics companies need information to make informed decisions and also logistics solutions are more vital, owing to the country’s archipelagic situation
and the cost of inventory. To further save on cost, logistics should be linked with the cost of inventory,

• The company’s TMS optimizes the routes, inventory movements, and network to optimize and minimize cost of inventory.
