I. Content and Rationale

Social networking sites became the leading way of communication even from the

other side of the world to miles away from it. These sites serve variety of

services that entertains their users all over the world. From the youngest possible

user to the oldest one, everyone keeps an eye on their own social network accounts

wherein they can show to the people their expressions about anything under the

sun. Filipinos are very social by nature. With the current advances in technology,

socialization has become highly te chnological and internet based. Many Filipinos

know and use facebook along with other less favored social networking sites and

applications like Twitter, Instagram, Viber and Whatsapp. Aside from

socialization, all sorts of organizations also utilize socia l media in the

Philippines. Government, non-government, educational and business

organizations now have their own facebook and twitter accounts. Politicians and

celebrities also have accounts that Filipino people now follow closely more than

the local news. Stores and independent sellers create facebook accounts to sell

and advertise their merchandise. At present, whether social media is favorable or

unfavorable, many students utilize these sites on a daily basis. As social media

sites continue to grow in popularity it is our belief that technology is a vital part

of today’s students’ success equation (Wang, Chen & Liang, 2011). Many

researchers have been looking into a considerable amount of research on how

social media influences student academic performa nces at colleges. Many

parents are worried that their children are spending too much time on Facebook

and other social media sites and not enough time studying.
II. Action Research Questions.

This study was conducted to determine how social media affect the study

habits of students in Governor Feliciano Leviste Memorial National High

School. Specifically this study sought to answer the following questions.

4. Is social media use heavily integrated into the study habits of students?

III. Proposed Innovation, Intervention and Strategy

Taking measures to improve academic performance and outcome starts

with improving the behavior of students in the classroom. Although it can seem

challenging, teachers play a large role in creating an environment that

encourages learning, improve student behavior and create better academic

performance at every level of education. Teachers can accomplish amazing feats

when the appropriate strategies are implemented to improve the behavior in the

classroom. The Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support program, a

teaching and training organization for professional educators, cites numerous

studies on its website that suggest students with poor classroom behavior often

struggle with academic skills.

Behavior academic outcomes refer to the changes that student actions can have

on the ability to maintain good performance in the classroom. As behavior

academic outcomes relate to negative situations and poor actions by students, the

classroom environment becomes less positive and teachers can struggle to

provide the best education to the entire class. Positive changes to the behavior of

students can improve the academic outcomes at any grade level.

My proposed innovation and intervention are:

1. Offer support and belief in the students .

2. By implementing a classroom management rewards syste m, teachers better

control problem student behavior.

3. Setting high standards of education and achievement in the classroom .

4. Incorporating several learning styles into the coursework will make it

easier for students to remain engaged .

IV. Action research Methods

a.) Participants & other Sources of data and Information

The participants in my study are the students that is addicted or used to using social

media and letting it to be an hindrance to their study habits . The other sources of my

data and information came from the students themselves and other teachers.

b.) Data Gathering Methods

The data gathering methods in this study includes survey, interview, and

questionnaire. I conduct this study to learn or know more about the effects of social

media to the study habbits of students .The data will be collected by the researcher

that can help a lot in this study.

c.) Data Analysis Plan

Analysis were based on their opinions or testimonies expressed on the casual

interviews and responses on the questionnaire that were utilized as some points. The data

supplied by the respondents will be studied to get ideas that may help for a great result or

This research is assigned to us to do for atleast three weeks. The work plan of my

study is on the table:

VII. Plans for Dissemination and Utilization

After the results have been identified, the researcher should be able to share

information about the study and let the study be the guide with the data and information

gathered to the betterment of the behavioral of students. This study may be also used as

reference of other researchers in making their own study and can also be used as a medium

for further studies

The following findings answers the statement of the problem of the study.

1. Students are aware that social media consumes their time for studying and they have

learn to manage their time.

2. Social media can be still be helpful sometimes, it can help students to make their

homework, projects , and outputs easily.

3. The use of social media in education provides students with the ability to get more

useful information, to connect with learning groups and other educational systems that

make education convenient.

4. Social media is not always being use for educational purpose sometimes students gets

distracted and pay attention more to social media than to study.
