Impression of Agriculture

 Before taking agriculture course

- At first, hindi napapansin ang agriculture at wala sa career option sa college
- Mababang pagtingin tulad ng karamihan (dahil sa sinasabi ng iba)
- Farming “hardwork in the field” and mababa ang kita parang naincorporate sa
poverty
- Sa tingin ko noon di ako uunlad
- Low opportunity at hindi malawak ang trabahong pwedeng pasukan

 When I’ve already introduced in the course

- Nalaman ko na napakaganda ng agri
- Malawak ang sakop
- Madaming pagpipiliang specialization
- Art, science and business (which I love)
- Business - Malaki ang kita
- Adventurous and interesting dahil sa various works na pwedeng gawin
- Nalaman ko din na mahalaga sa pang-araw araw na buhay (kahalagahan sa isang
nation)
- Nagkaroon na din ako ng pagtanaw ng utang na loob at mataas na respeto sa mga
taong bahagi ng agriculture

What can you do to increase the attractiveness of agriculture among the youth?
 What is agriculture
 Status of agriculture (globally and in the Philippines) in terms of professions related to
agri (No. of farmers etc.)
 Reason why the no of agri people is decreasing or unti
- The successors of agri related workers leave and don’t take agri related
courses (or the YOUTH’S diverging pathway from agri courses) because of:
 Quality education
 Outright disdain for agricultural communities
 Perceived lack of support from their parents
 Poverty and risk in farming
 LEAVING THE RURAL AREAS FOR MORE LUCRATIVE
OPPORTUNITIES IN URBAN AREAS or OTHER
PROFESSIONS (for all youth classes)
- My own experience as an agriculture student (my friend's perception about
agriculture)
 Consequences when this decrease in no of agri people continues
 Scarcity of food producers in the future
 Scarcity of food (loss of balance between the population and food needed)
 Worst case scenario – many will be in hunger or die
 Thus the gov’t and the people under the umbrella of agriculture must do something to
prevent it to happen
 What can I do as an agriculture student to increase the attractiveness of agriculture
among the youth?
 Promote agriculture to fellow youth through showing them interesting activities
in agriculture and show them na mechanized nadin ang agriculture. Influence of
fellow youth (pag-aaya nila na mas strong yung magiging factor kase youth sila
at makikitaan sila na mayroon silang interest which means it's interesting to do)
 Group of agri students/professionals school to school promotion (doing
fun and exciting activities/games that is agriculture related and
orientation about agriculture)
 Promote through - Makisabay sa takbo ng buhay ng mga youth use of
tech (Agriculture fb group or social media) where here magpopost ng
mga ginagawa ng isang agriculturists, updates about agriculture, mga
interesting activities na ginagawa sa agriculture, opportunities in
agriculture – works, as a business)
 government intervention (make some steps to make the image of agriculture
better to the youth e.g. agricultural development (use of high tech/mechanization
in agri) tsaka yung income), action researches and organizational projects -
makiisa sa mga activities related to agri development that can help you in
having enough knowledge about agri that you can use in promoting agriculture.

- Image of agriculture or the way na pinepresent is nagbubungkal – hindi
attractive sa youth kasi hindi yun usong trabaho; decreasing interest to
agriculture especially among the youth is a worldwide phenomenon;
enrollment in agricultural schools worldwide (aging population of the
farmers); based sa mga nakausap naming farmers sa other parts of the world,
maipakita sa mga young generations that you make money out of agriculture
kase parang ang thinking ng mga bata ngayon eh kailangan after
makagraduate ah okay kikita ako dyan; Generation ngayon ay gadget friendly,
so the agri must use the advent of technology to make agri attractive among
the youth; isa sa mga elders sa uplb says that na dapat maipakita mo sa kanila
na pwede kang mag agri without literally tilling the soil by mechanization;
solution para maging attractive ang agriculture ay makita ng mga youth na
ikaw ay farmer pero gumagamit ka ng computer, “SMART AGRICULTURE”
na pwede mong gamiting ang technology to plant, harvest, in irrigation lahat
on the tip of your fingers, tatakbo yan (parang naglalaro din – robotics) –
Mechanizing and modernizing agriculture. Dapat din makita na yung mga
graduate ng agriculture, merong mga opportunities na kikita ako ng as much
or more than sa mga uso ngayong professions such as IT, Nursing etc. kase
usually kaya gusto yung mga gantong courses kasi ang nasa isip nila after
makatapos mag-aabroad kase Malaki pera don. You can also do that kahit
graduate ng agri at nagbusiness ka. To make money out of agri, you must look
at it not just in the farm activities but as a business, as a means of living. Agri
is profitable, sabi ng isa nilang nakakacooperate na farmer, a progressive
farmer, dapat hindi ka magtatagal sa agriculture kung hindi mo nakikitang
kikita ka, it is earning. Otherwise limipat ka nalang sa ibang pagkakakitaan o
pagkakabuhayan dahil bakit ka magtatagal sa isang activity na wala ka
namang gains. Sa mga professors, maipakita dapat sa mga estudents na
exciting, challenging, and there is so much instore for young people na mag-
engage sa agriculture. Ang mga usual na graduates sa agriculture – sa umpisa
ok din naman eh, they’re going to work sa mga companies, multinationals,
but siguro after sometime, after gaining some experience, siguro the way to
go is really agripreneurship (agriculture entrepreneurship) ikaw mismo
magpuput up ng sarili mong business dahil alam mo naman na how to do
things dahil graduate ka ng agriculture, iaapply mo yung pinag-aralan mo at
ikaw mismo magpapatakbo ng isipan mo kung paano lalawak yung business
mo.

Farmville, wag nalang sa computer/gadget, yung totoo na lang kase ikaw
mismo magiging wealthy Kaden. You produce your own safe food, you also
share it and sell it.
