1. Suppose f is entire and Ref (z) is bounded on C. Prove that f is bounded.

2. Prove that a function that is analytic in the extended complex plane is necessarily constant.

3. If f is entire function such that |f (z)| ≤ eRez for z ∈ C. What can you say about f ?

4. (A generalized version of Liouville’s theorem) Prove that an entire function f which satisfies the
inequality |f (z)| ≤ M|z|α for some α ≥ 0, M > 0, and all sufficiently large |z|, reduces to a
polynomial of degree n where n is the largest integer such that n ≤ α.

5. Suppose that f is analytic in a bounded domain D and continuous on D = D ∪ ∂D. Then prove that
the functions Ref (z) and Imf (z) attain their maximum at some points on the boundary ∂D of D.

6. Suppose f and g are analytic on the closed unit disk |z| ≤ 1 and satisfy (i) |f (z) ≤ M for all |z| ≤ 1
1
(ii) f (z) = z n g(z) for all |z| ≤ 3
for some n ∈ N. Use the maximum modulus principle to find the
maximum value of |f (z)| on |z| ≤ 13 .

.

11. Let P (z) and Q(z) be two polynomials of degree at most n that agree on n + 1 distinct points. Show
that P (z) = Q(z), z ∈ C.

12. (Minimum modulus principle) Prove that a function f analytic in a bounded domain S, continuous
up to and including its boundary and f (z) 6= 0 for all z ∈ S, attains its minimum modulus on the
boundary.

13. Find the maximum of | cos z| on the square {x + iy : 0 < x < 2π, 0 < y < 2π}.

14. Find the maximum of |zez + z 2 | and |iz 2 + 2z| on the set {z : |z| ≤ 1 and Imz ≥ 0}.
