General Accommodations and Teaching Strategies

• Scaffolded tasks with sentence starters included
• Break down large tasks in to chunks and be specific about what you want completed and by when •
Frequent check ins to monitor progress
• Consider seating plan works best individually, gym balls are a good idea to keep him moving
• Socially he struggles and you will need to be strategic about how group tasks are organised
• Visual supports for auditory instructions
• Short and simple, step by step instructions, Thomas appears to struggle with multi-step instructions
• Co constructions, annotated exemplars and mind maps to plan writing and encourage broader ideas
• Cheat sheets and practice tests to refer back to support complex abstract ideas
• Provide regular feedback to ensure on task expectations
• Photographs of notes, diagrams etc don’t expect Thomas to be writing reams
• Visual checklists embedded within task sheet would be useful
