Organic drugs

Organic drugs are natural substances extracted from plants and

animals.
For example heroin and cocaine, yes they come from plants
originally, heroin from the opium poppy plant and cocaine from the
coca plant, but both of these plants receive a great deal of processing
before they can be used as mind-altering substances to get high off of.
So they aren’t really man-made drugs, but they aren’t really natural
drugs either. They are more of a hybrid.so that why they are the
natural extracts of plants not the natural drugs.
Examples of Organic drugs

Tetracyclines
Tetracylines are lipophilic nonionized molecules composed of a
linear fused six membered nucleus . They have a broad spectrum of
activity.
Tetracyclines are bacteriostatic to a wide range of gram positive and
gram negative bacteria, they inhibit protein synthesis by inhibiting the
30S ribosom

Tetracycline Clinical Uses

Tetracyclines generally are used for the treatment of Pasteurella
infections, brucellosis, Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections,
rickettsial infections, Shigella dysentery, Chlyamidia psittaci
infections, conjunctivitis, trachoma, L-serotypes of Chlamydia
infections, ureteritis caused by Chlamydia or Urea plasmas, syphilis
prophylaxis and chronic bronchitis in which mino cycline and
doxycycline are preferred.
.
Theseinclude tetracycline, demeclocycline,doxycycline and minocy
cline, which are now widely used today Just recently, a new class of
tetracycline was introduced which exhibits broad-spectrum anti-
bacterial coverage

Levofloxacin
Levofloxacin was developed by the alkylation on position 8 of
quinolone . This modification increased the half life of the drug to 7
hours and improved its tissue penetration

Levofloxacin Clinical Uses

Levofloxacin is widely used for respiratory tract infections . The
absorption of this drug is rapid and its bioavailability is about 100% .
Levofloxacin is mainly eliminated renally and less than 10% of the
dose is excreted by metabolism .
Fluoroquinolones
Quinolones were derived from quinine. Is the basic chemical structure
of fluoroquinolones. Nalidixic acid was the first fluoroquinolone
developed. It has a variable systemic absorption, therefore, its use was
limited to urinary tract infections

Fluoroquinolones Clinical Uses

Fluoroquinolones are very active against enteric gram negative bacilli
and cocci, gram negative bacteria, gastrointestinal tract and urinary
tract bacterial pathogens, while ofloxacin and ciprofloxacin are
preferred for gram positive bacterial infections

Ciprofloxacin

Ciprofloxacin is an antibacterial prescription medicine. Ciprofloxacin

is an antibiotic that is used to treat bacterial infections. It stops the
multiplication of bacteria by inhibiting the reproduction and repair of
their genetic material (DNA). The FDA approved ciprofloxacin in
October 1987.
Ciprofloxacin clinical uses

 Skin infections
 Bone infections
 Joint infections
 Urinary tract infections (UTI) caused by certain bacteria such
as E. coli.
 Infectious diarrheas caused by E. coli, Campylobacter jejuni,
and Shigella bacter

Aspirin
Aspirin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).
Aspirin clinical uses
Aspirin is one of the most commonly used drugs for treating mild to
moderate pain, migraines, and fever.

Common uses include headaches, period pains, colds and flu, sprains
and strains, and long-term conditions, such as arthritis.

For mild to moderate pain, it is used alone. For moderate to severe

pain, it is often used along with other opioid analgesic and NSAIDs.

In high doses, it can treat or help reduce symptoms of:

 rheumatic fever
 rheumatic arthritis
 other inflammatory joint conditions
 pericarditic

Drug preparation
A drug supplier (grower and collector of medicinal plants) delivers
his goods to the phytopharmaceutical industry and drug dealers in the
form of the whole drug, i.e. the plant or plant part is not made smaller
after harvesting, but usually after drying. The drug is then packaged in
suitable shipping containers, usually in bags. This means that the raw
materials supplied in such a way are processed on the way to
becoming a medicine. In the simplest case, they will only be cleaned,
then cut or powdered, and used in this form to prepare a tea
infusion or to manufacture tablets or capsules. Most, however,
the drug undergoes much more technically complex processes for
making an herbal drug namely when the drug is extracted. Here the
ingredients of the drug are removed from its packaging (plant cell)
and turned into a finished drug in a processable form. Extraction gains
enrichment in the ingredients achieved and the undesirable impurities
such as chlorophyll, fibre and proteins are mostly left behind. To
clearly distinguish the quantitative relation between
the drug and drug preparation to make clear, a so-called drug-extract
ratio is specified (DEV) for an extract.

Athlete's foot (tinea pedis) is a fungal infection that usually begins
between the toes. It commonly occurs in people whose feet have
become very sweaty while confined within tightfitting shoes.
