Pourquoi Me Reveiller (Why should i wake up?)
(Blau) | Jules Massenet (1842 –1912) from I Werther [Act II]
Every valley shall be exalted Is an Aria from Jules Massenet’s Werther. The opera, based on
(Isaiah 40:4) | G.F Handel (1756-1791) from Messiah [Act I, Scene II]
Goethe’s novel The Sorrows of Young Werther, depicts its protagonist’s

Is an aria from Handel’s oratorio messiah. The text was taken from
Isaiah 40:4. The text are frequently heard during Advent (preparing a way for
the Lord). The voice illustrates the exaltation by long coloraturas, whereas
"plain" is depicted with a long note. More word painting occurs in a low note
for "low" and a complicated figure for "crooked".
Un’ Aura Amorosa (A Breath of Love)
(Da Ponte) | W. A. Mozart (1756-1791) from Così fan tutte [Act I, Scene II]
Written in 1790, one year before his death, Mozart's Così fan tutte is
set with a libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte. Contrary to popular belief, it is not
exactly a comic opera, but is classified as a dramma giocoso, which has a
tendency to mix characteristics of opera seria and opera buffa. At the end of
Act I, Fernando ponders the idea of love being the only nourishment he needs
to sustain life. The beloved hero believes that Dorabella’s love is the only thing
he will ever need.

The aria is in the third act. Charlotte (the object of Werther’s desire) draws his
attention (in an attempt to divert him from thoughts of self-destruction) to a
book of Ossian that he had once started to translate; its words fit his mood of
growing despair. Ossian’s poem is the aria.
Dein Ist Mein Ganzez Herz (Yours is my heart alone)
(Blau) | Franz Lehar (1842 –1912) from I Das Land des Lächelns [Act II]
Is an aria from the operetta Das Land des Lächelns by Franz Lehár. It
was for many years associated with the tenor Richard Tauber, for whom it was
written. The aria is sung by the character of Prince Sou-Chong in act 2. The
aria reveals the love of prince to the heroine Lisa despite of their cultural
differences.

(de Jesus) | Fransico Santiago (1889 –1947))

A kundiman composed by Francisco Santiago and text by Jose

Corazon de Jesus. The text describes how the purity of one’s love is the only
thing that matters. The protagonist has no wealth to give but only the
pureness of his oath oflove. He remains constant until death. Therefore his
final plea is for her to have pity on him and consider his undying love.
