Components Of Physical Fitness


Physical fitness
is a state of health and well-being and, more specifically, the ability to perform aspects of
sports, occupations and daily activities.

Health Related Fitness


Involves exercise activities that you do in order to try to improve
your physical health and stay healthy, particularly in the categories
of cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility,
muscular endurance ^and body composition.

Cardiovascular Fitness

the ability of the circulatory and respiratory systems to


supply oxygen to skeletal muscles during sustained
physical activity.

Muscular Strength

the maximum amount of force a muscle can put out when it


contracts. This is built by exercise that is strenuous for short periods of time.

Muscular Endurance

the ability of the muscle to sustain activity or continue to perform work.

Flexibility

the ability of the muscles and joints to extend themselves through their
range of motion.

Body Composition

the percent of body weight that is fat compared to other body tissues.

Skill Related Fitness


is fitness that conditions the body or specific muscles
for a primary goal of improving a skill.

Agility
the ability to change body position quickly while
maintaining control of it's movement.

Balance

the ability to maintain or regain equilibrium, while moving or stationary.

Coordination

the ability to use senses of thought and sight together to accomplish accurate and well timed
body movements.

Reaction Time

the amount of time it take to start (or stop) moving once you decide to start.

Speed

the ability to perform a movement to cover a distance in a


short amount of time.
