(Bogo-Medellin Milling Company, Inc.)

I. Company’s History

Bogo-Medellin Milling Company, Inc. (BMM), which was incorporated on June 4, 1928, is a
Sugar Mill, a manufacturing company, principally engaged in the milling/manufacturing of
centrifugal raw sugar with molasses as its by-product. The raw materials are sugar canes from
various sugar cane plantations owned by about 438 planters within the district.

Aside from the mill's proximity to the sugar cane plantations, BMM put up three transloading
stations, situated to serve planters whose plantations are far from the mill. The cane yard at mill
site was expanded in 2010 to accommodate canes delivered to the mill, with the mill's capacity
remaining unchanged from 1994 at 3,000 tons of cane per day and three transloading stations.

BMM's wholly-owned subsidiary, BOMEDCO Agricultural Corporation (BAC), formerly

Northern Cebu Agricultural Corporation, was established to develop and cultivate private
agricultural lands, and to harvest, preserve, pack and sell the products of said lands. BAC, which
started commercial operations on October 1, 2000, produces sugar cane from its plantation for
milling with BMM.

II. Location

The mill plant is located in Barangay Luy-a, Medellin, Cebu. The principal product of the
Company is raw sugar. The Company, through its subsidiary, BOMEDCO Agricultural
Corporation (BAC), is engaged in sugar farming operation. BAC is engaged in developing and
cultivating private agricultural lands, and harvesting, preserving, packing and selling the
products of said lands. BAC produces sugar cane from its plantation for milling with the
Company.

IV. Observation/Recommendation

We, the BSME & BSEE, together with Engr. Mata and Engr. Rivera have
travelled going to Bogo-Medellin Milling Inc. using the rented van. We have
travelled 91.6 kilometer from Danao City to Medellin with a travelling time of
3 hours and 55 minutes. We departed from Danao at exactly 7 o’clock in the
morning.
Security. If I rate the security level of BOMEDCO from 1 to 10, I would like
to rate it as 7 because the level of security has many flaws. The strict area of
security in BOMEDCO is just in the entrance of the guest where we went
inside the sugar mill plant and gave our school ID’s in exchange of their guest
IDs.
Safety. From the rate 1 to 10, the level of safety in BOMEDCO will be 3
because it has no safety precautions and safety practices observed in the plant.
As we observe, 4 out 10 employees has only proper personal protective
equipment and there are lot of high risk of safety hazards inside the plant. The
Administration did not really provide or care about the safety of their
employee. They did not repair some hazards that may can cause accidents to
the employee or to the machines.

Technology. From the rate of 1 to 10, I will rate 5 the technological level of
BOMEDCO because they did not upgrade their processing machines and
some other were obsolete of the modern age of sugar milling. The only cool
machines that I saw were their water-tube steam boiler and their sugar cane
crusher.
Administration. From the rate of 1 to 10, the administration would be 7
because the personnel who guided us were so generous, hospitable and
informative.
Based from my observation, if I were to rate the plant, my over-all rating for
the BOMEDCO is 6 over 10.
