COURSE DESCRIPTION :
This unit identifies the competence required to weld carbon steel plate of thickness range 9 mm in 2G position, Weld carbon steel plate
of thickness range 9 mm in vertical up 3G position, and Weld carbon steel plate of thickness range 6 mm to 9 mm in 4G position by selecting,
preparing and setting the plates using SMAW process and checking the weldment so that the plate is welded according to welding
instruction/procedure and the weldment is free from distortion, surface defect and meet the specified welding standard
1.3 Set welding current 1.3.1 Apply safety precaution related to handling of
electrical equipment according to OSHA.
1.3.2 Identify unit and welding current variable for specific
plate thickness according to BS/AWS codes and
standards.
1.3.3 Set welding amperage for the required plate thickness
according to BS/AWS codes and standards.
1.4 Identify welding electrode 1.4.1 Identify type and classification of common electrodes
compatible with the base metal according to BS/AWS
codes and standards.
1.4.2 Identify type of electrode storage according to
manufactures recommendation.
1.4.3 Select electrode required for the specific welding
process.
1.5 Align and tack weld plates 1.5.1 Identify alignment technique according to standard
operational procedures.
1.5.2 Perform tacking procedure on work piece according to
standard operational procedures.
1.5.3 Use jigs and fixtures to hold work piece according to
required process.
1.6 Carry out welding using E7016/ 1.6.1 Apply safety precaution related to welding process
E7018 low hydrogen electrode according to OSHA.
1.6.2 Set parent metal to required position
1.6.3 Maintain welding current, arc length, electrode angle
and travel speed according to required welding
process.
1.6.4 Operate welding equipment according to standard
operational procedures
1.6.5 Apply correct welding techniques to weld carbon steel
1.7 Inspect weldment after welding 1.7.1 Identify type and inspect surface defects and causes
in weldment.
1.7.2 Practise safety consciousness, cautions, alert and
patience in welding work according to safety work
requirement.
