Cement company fined after worker set on fire

An international cement company has been prosecuted by the Health and


Safety Executive (HSE) after a worker was set alight in an explosion.

An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that Lafarge
Cement UK Plc of Granite Way, Syston, Leicester failed to ensure electrical
systems were maintained in such a way as to protect workers.

The company admitted breaching sections 2(1) and 3(1) of the Health and
Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. It was fined £130,000 and ordered to pay costs
of £29,742.

Nitrogen knocks out employee inside machine

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has prosecuted a Black Country
recycling firm after nitrogen gas, used to stop explosions, made a worker pass
out.

Firms fined after worker crushed

The Health and Safety Executive prosecuted Kent Road Construction and
Fortmere Construction after a worker was seriously injured by falling timber.

North Tyneside boss fined for asbestos failings

The boss of a refurbishment company has been fined for failing to provide
adequate information, instruction and training to workers in the proper
procedures when dealing with asbestos.
