Conduct Guidelines and Disciplinary Standards

Behaviour assessment refers to an approach used to make an observation, describe,

predict as well as correct behaviour. During the process, several guidelines should be observed as

per the regulations set by the board. As a professional, these guidelines are essential in the

assessment and in preventing legal battles that may arise (Bailey, & Burch, 2013). To prevent

these shortcomings, there should be a strict observation of the guidelines as well as distinct use

of the assessment tools.

As a behavior change professional, scientific knowledge is essential in the assessment.

The knowledge is required in judgements regarding service provision. A tool necessary in this

case is the Direct Observation Tool (Rachel, 2019). The tool includes the use of scatter plots as

well as an ABC chart. As a professional, the tool is essential in making judgements (BACB,

2013). A behaviour change analyst makes of these tools to make observations regarding

environmental factors that support the behaviour, antecedents alongside consequences of the

behaviour. Such factors require critical approaches that aid in decision making.

Competence is also another guideline to be observed during behaviour assessment; the

reason behind this is that behaviour change analysts should be able to make a proper assessment

of the problem behavior (Rachel, 2019). A relevant tool, in this case, is the checklist. The

checklist is essential in the acquisition of the data needed about problem behavior (BACB,

2013). The checklist tool requires a high level of competence, since, various factors are

considered while making any assessment if a client’s behaviour.

Professional as well as scientific relationships should be observed, as per the board. In

this case, a behaviour change professional is expected to uphold a good relationship with their

clients (BACB, 2013). Therefore, the professional describes the various assessment results and

strive to ensure that the client is in a position that they understand the findings. Successful use of

the assessment tools such as scatter plots, ABC chart, review of records, among other tools, is

essential in the accomplishment of the rules of conduct for these professionals (Rachel, 2019).

Additionally, a clear explanation of the findings helps in the creation of confidence and trust

between the client and the client.
