Student Learning:

Student 1:

This student was not in class for the Investigation for an entire week (due to other curricula
activities). They needed no extra time and used their time efficiently of what they had during class
time. She had worked extremely hard and persisted at home to complete the Investigation even
though it was not due for the next few days. This student received the highest grade in the class of
19.5 out of 20, with having needed no extra guidance in completing the Investigation. As seen in the
rubric and their PowerPoint (attached), the student was able to complete and present their
information well on the PowerPoint slides. My impact on this students learning is not extreme. I did
guide this student very little through my written feedback in their Math book.

Student 2:

This student needed guidance, their main trouble was finding the destinations they wanted to travel
to as they were unfamiliar as to where they wanted to visit and what was there. They needed the
Investigation to be broken down and thoroughly explained, a few times, of what they needed to
include – written and orally. The student preferred to look at images rather than find and write
information based on their destinations of their choice. The student could not persist and were
continuously distracted by the people around them. My impact on this students learning is seen
through their book work of their notes. The student developed the understanding of using
coordinates to find their destinations and showed a detailed list of their accommodation where they
efficiently calculated the total cost of their trip.

Student 3:

At the beginning of the Investigation, this student needed a lot of guidance as she was unsure of
how to find and produce her work. At the beginning I believed that this student could effectively
complete the Investigation, however I noticed that it would not be completed in the time frame
asked. This student was one of the students that had a differentiated rubric and information. She
found and recorded the coordinates of her destination correctly and collated a list of expenses that
were clearly presented with all of the information needed. My impact on this students learning is
seen in her completed PowerPoint slides. The student contained all of the relevant information that
was asked and ended up with a fantastic grade for this Investigation.

My planning and implementation of lessons have been impacted based on the focus of these three
students that are at various levels. This has helped me plan and implement different lessons making
sure that there are different points of the lessons that can be gained by these students that are at
different levels of their learning and I will continue to allow for different work for those at different
levels, planning more extensive work for those in the extending students group.
