CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

1. Background of the Study


Coming late to school is one of the major problem in many schools. The
impact of this great menace cannot be over emphasized. As it has contributed
immensely in a negative way to the academic achievement of learners and the
functioning of the school.
Students arrive to school lately because of their usual habits, such as
waking up late due to laziness, rushing or undone assignments, unprepared bath,
breakfast, clothes, pack lunch and other are waiting their companions or friends,
and sometimes because of some problems in their parents that affects then and
their interest that leads them to come to school lately.
Teachers have wonder why students arrive to school on or before the
expected time. But they not, make deep research into this problem in order to
provide solutions which would help to cure this problem.
This study will focus the factors that are responsible for the late arrival of
student in school and attempt to find solution to this problem.
2. Statement of the Problem
Primarily this study is focused on the factors affecting the late arrival of
student in Letters National High School. In this research, we seek to answer the
following questions:
1) What are the reasons why you usually arrive late to school?
2) How many times in a week you arrive late to school?
3. Objective
This study aims to determine the factors that leads the Letter National
High School students arrive in school lately. The researchers will able to:
1) Find out how many times in a week they arrive late to school.
2) Determine their reasons why they usually arrive late to school.
4. Scope and Delimitations
The primary focus of the study is to determine the factors leading to
students in Letters National High School to arrive lately. The study includes the
demographic profile of students particularly, the age, grade and section, and
gender. But writing the name of the Students is optional.
The participants of the study were senior High School students of
Letters National High School who usually arrive to school lately that are enrolled
on the sy. 2018-2019 the researcher limited the study to 10 respondents.
5. Significance of the Study
The study was conducted to find out the factors that leads to arrive the
students in Letters National High School lately. The result of study is beneficial to
students, parents as well as teachers because this can gives to them information
about the factors that leads to students to arrive lately in school.
This study will benefit to students specially to those who usually arrive
lately to school for them to be discipline at school, home and even in the future life.
This study will also benefit the parents for them to be motivate to help
their children come to school early that may lead to the improvement of their
children academic performance.
This study will also benefit the teachers for they can motivate their
students to come early in school.
CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

According to Clackmannanshire Council Online(2010), the school


heads fairness or equal treatment between different subjects, as perceived by
individuals, if they perceive obvious “rule of law” in terms of punctuality
individuals could come to school if they perceive that there are no consequences
to it.
Peretomode(2001) and Egbule(2004) cited that the habit of lateness
is being copied by family members. For instance the child that sees the fathers
habit, always going late to work could also either voluntarily or involuntarily learn
the habit, those go to school late also.
Breezes, Markey and Woll(2010) stated that we live in the society
where in the culture does not frown at, or rather say anything about punctuality
as ethics in work environment, those to most individual punctuality as not really a
serious matter, compared with hot punctuality is being perceive in western
cultures and develop countries.
CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY

The study investigate the factors affecting the tardiness of Senior High
School student in Leyte National High School the main subjective is to find out
the reason why they arrive in school.
Spefically the study sought common those questions what are the reason
why you usually arrive late to school how many times in a week you arrive late to
school.
