LUIS ESTEVA MARABOTO – CIVIL ENGINEERING

We chose Luis Esteva Maraboto because he is one of the most important civil engineers.
Luis Esteva Maraboto was born in Mexico on January 31, 1935. He is calm and
conservative. He is medium, his hair is gray and short, his eyes are black and small. He
uses glasses and he is older. Luis is married, has three children, five grandchildren. He
likes good coffee and for a couple of years, he has been attending a group of musical
appreciation. He had been passionate about music for many years regrets not having
had the opportunity to learn to play any instrument. Since he was young he was attracted
by the construction, since his father worked as an engineer, although he never had the
opportunity to study a university career, he helped him to draw up the plans of the houses
he planned and built for that reason it is a civil engineer. He studied plans the career of
a Civil Engineer at National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He has
specialized in seismic engineering and construction methods to reduce damage to
structures and buildings during earthquakes. In 1953 he was an assistant professor of
the National School of Engineers. He began working in the area of seismic engineering
as an advisor to the commission for the repair of damaged structures in Acapulco. He
has directed the Institute of Engineering and has been the coordinator of Scientific
Research of the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
Part Two - Interview
Interviewer: Hello everyone, I'm here with Luis Esteva Maraboto. As you probably
know, Luis Esteva is the winner of the National Award for Civil Engineering in 2015, for
his outstanding professional career in the area of seismic engineering. Luis, thanks for
joining us today.
Luis Esteva Maraboto: Thank you for receiving me.
Interviewer: He told us that since he was young he was attracted to building buildings,
so he decided to study Civil Engineering at the National Autonomous University of
Mexico (UNAM), but we would like to know if he likes his career?
Luis Esteva Maraboto: Well, the truth is that since I was little, the construction called
my attention, since at that time my father worked as an engineer.
Interviewer: We would like to know Who inspired you to study this career?
Luis Esteva Maraboto: Actually my father, since he was an engineer, but he did not
have the possibility of studying a university career, so when he drew his plans I had the
opportunity to help him.
Interviewer: Well, we would like to know more about your personal life, are you
married or single?
Luis Esteva Maraboto: I am happily married and I feel good about that.
rviewer: So I can assume that you have children?
Luis Esteva Maraboto: Exactly, I have 3 children, who gave me 5 wonderful
grandchildren.
Interviewer: Tell us more about your career What specializations do you have?
Luis Esteva Maraboto: I specialized in seismic engineering and construction methods
to reduce damage to structures and buildings during earthquakes.
Interviewer: What was your first job?
Luis Esteva Maraboto: Well, I started working in the area of seismic engineering as an
advisor to the commission for the repair of damaged structures in Acapulco.
Interviewer: Congratulations engineer, I imagine that since everyone apart from their
work performs another productive activity, tell us what are your hobbies?
Luis Esteva Maraboto: Well, I'm passionate about music, I like listening to different
genres of music in my free time.
Interviewer: Do you play an instrument?
Luis Esteva Maraboto: No, I did not have the opportunity to learn to play a musical
instrument.
Interviewer: Talking about that topic, what is your unfulfilled objective?
Luis Esteva Maraboto: That of playing a musical instrument, I did not have the
opportunity.
Interviewer: Well, speaking of the labor issue, where would you apply the methods
you design?
Luis Esteva Maraboto: In the various buildings, reducing the damage that occurs as a
result of an earthquake.
Interviewer: Finally, Luis. What is your recommendation for those who study Civil
Engineering?
Luis Esteva Maraboto: Investigate the fundamentals of the race, find out about the
different types of materials, construction methods, methods in order to learn all the
fundamentals of the race, and be able to put them into practice.
