Information Technology
in South Texas College
and
The Systems Theory
South Texas College was founded in 1993 as a
community college servicing the Hidalgo and Starr
Counties Communities.

In 1994 STC defined and approved what their

mission and purpose was for the College.

Organizational In 2004 STC was approved by SACS as the first

community college in Texas to offer Baccalaureate
Background degrees. By 2005 STC officially offered the first BAT
in Technology Management.

As the College grew and the technological

advancements, the IT department grew with the
college to support the mission and organizational
goals.
IT Organizational Issue

As STC has been growing, the IT infrastructure's initial

capacity has been expanding as the College grows.

The increase in assets is demanding a new

improvement in the STC's IT organization to keep
track of their hardware, software, warranties,
maintenance, vendor contracts, and life cycle control.
Ludwig von Bertalanffy
(1901 – 1972)
• Austrian Biology Theorist

• Influenced by many people from various

fields.

• Education in biology, physics, psychology,

and sociology.

• Developed the General Systems Theory.

• The bases of the systems theory
lay under the concept that a
“system” is conformed of living

integral piece that makes up the

whole cannot be diminished to

Solution Based on
Systems Theory

• The implementation of an IT asset

management system will solve
some of the challenges that many
growing environments encounter,
by merging the human and
technological aspects.
