Theoretical Background

This study anchored in Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Theory by

Urie Bronfenbrenner (1971- 2005) and is supported by Necessity and
Inefficiency in the Generation of Waste Theory by
Baumgӓrtner and Arons (2003) and the Theory of
Waste Management by Pongraez, Phillips & Keiski (2004).

This study aims to know the factors behind improper

segregation among senior high school students, so if
refers to the behavior of the students that are
not doing the proper disposal of their waste.

According to Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Theory by Urie

Bronfenbrenner that this theory looks at a child’s development within
the context of the system of relationships that form his or her
environment. Bronfenbrenner’s theory defines complex “layers” of
environment, each having an effect on a child’s development. This
theory has recently been named “bioecological systems theory”, to
emphasize that a child’s own biology is a primary environment fueling
her development. The interaction between factors in the child’s
maturing biology, his immediate family/community environment, and
the societal landscape fuels and steers his development.
Changes or conflict in any one layer will ripple throughout other layers.
To study a child’s development then, we must look
not only at the child and her immediate environment, but also at the
interaction of the larger environment as well.

It means that this theory looks at a child’s development that

environment can change the child’s perspective, If the child lives at a
dirty place he will group up as an untidy person. This theory implies
that wherever the place we live, we can be influenced on the place we
live in. To have a development during childhood we must have a good
environment. This theory signifies that what we learn from our
childhood is what we do today. Segregation is one of the things
we learn from our childhood; we should apply it now
to avoid excessive improper segregation of garbage.

According to Necessity and Inefficiency in the Generation of

Waste Theory by Stefan Baumgӓrtner and Swaan Arons that the sheer
amount of waste generated in modern industrial economies
is enormous. For example, in 1990 the amount of waste in West
Germany (measured in physical units) by more than a factor of 4. Some
have argued based on the thermodynamic laws of mass conservation
and entropy generation, that in industrial production processes the
occurrence of waste is as necessary as the use of material resources.
The laws of thermodynamics are employed as an analytical framework
within which results about society metabolism may be vigorously
deduced in energetic and material terms. We demonstrate that the
occurrence of waste is an avoidable necessity in the industrial
production of desired goods. Although waste is thus an essential
qualitative element of industrial production, the quantitative extent to
which waste occurs may vary within certain units according to the
degree of thermodynamic efficiency with which these processes are
operated. We discuss the question of which proportion of the amount
of waste currently generated is due to thermodynamic necessity and
which proportion is due to thermodynamic inefficiency.

According to the Theory of

Waste Management by Pongraez, Phillips & Keiski (2004), represents
a more in-depth account of the domain and contains conceptual
analysis of waste, the activity upon waste, and a holistic view of the
goals of waste management. Waste Management Theory is founded
on the expectation that waste management is to prevent waste causing
harm to human health and the environment. The proper definition of
waste is crucial to constructing a sustainable agenda of waste
management. It is largely the case that current legislation attends to
existing waste. Definitions emerging from this condition may, however,
conflict with the goals of waste prevention, because something that
already exists cannot be prevented from arising, when material is
assigned the label of “waste”, it will be treated as such; consequently,
despite its explicit wish of waste prevention, implicitly, legislation
essentially ? waste. The inherent philosophical implication of such
definitions is that they are not able to facilitate a sustainable waste
management system. Therefore, new dynamic definitions for waste
and waste management must be ought, which can explain why waste
is created and can refer an intrinsic solution for the problem. A radically
new approach, based on an object-oriented modeling language, is
prevented to define the key concepts of waste management.

Waste Management has objectives and goals to prevent waste

causing harm to human health and environment. The most important
goals and objective for proper waste management is to protect the
environment and for the health and safety of the population. Preventing
waste that will cause is very important because it may cause various
problems. When we will not dispose our waste properly, our waste
will eventually rot, but not all, and in the process, it may smell
or generate bad smell that could affect our health.

This study means to determine the Factors Behind Improper

Segregation among Senior High School Students. It also seeks to learn
? which factors behind improper segregation among Senior High
Students have.

This research makes use of a qualitative research design. It was

conducted in the school premises of Advance Institute of Technology
Inc. The respondents are 100 in total. The researcher used a
questionnaire in order to gather the answer needed.
