2. Performing Arts
1. Visual Arts
The visualformssuchas painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture,
ceramics, photography, video, filmmaking, design, crafts,
and architecture. Many artistic disciplines (performing arts, conceptual
art, textile arts) involve aspects of the visual arts as well as arts of
other types. Also included within the visual arts[1] are the applied
arts[2] such as industrial design, graphic design, fashion
design, interior design and decorative art.
Types
 Drawing is a means of making an image, using any of a wide
variety of tools and techniques.
 Training and education in the visual arts has generally been
through variations of the apprentice and workshop systems.
 Painting taken literally is the practice of
applying pigment suspended in a carrier (or medium) and a
binding agent (a glue) to a surface (support) such
as paper, canvas or a wall.
 Architecture is the process and the product
of planning, designing, and constructing buildings or any other
structures.
 Sculpture is three-dimensional artwork created by shaping or
combining hard or plastic material, sound, or text and or light,
commonly stone (either rock or marble), clay, metal, glass,
or wood.
 Plastic arts are a term for art forms that involve physical
manipulation of a plastic medium by moulding or modeling
such as sculpture or ceramics. The term has also been applied
to all the visual (non-literary, non-musical) arts.
Performing arts are a form of art in which artists use their
voices, bodies or inanimate objects to convey artistic expression. It is
different from visual arts, which is when artists use paint, canvas or
various materials to create physical or static art objects. Performing
arts include a range of disciplines which are performed in front of a
live audience.
Types
 Theatre is the branch of performing arts; concerned
with acting out stories in front of an audience, using a
combination of speech, gesture, music, dance, sound and
spectacle.
 In the context of performing arts, dance generally refers to
human movement, typically rhythmic and to music, used as a
form of audience entertainment in a performance setting.
Dance aredependenton social, cultural, aesthetic artistic and m
oral constraints and range from functional movement (such
as folk dance) to codified, virtuosotechniques such as ballet.[4]
 Music is an art form which combines pitch, rhythm,
and dynamic in order to create sound. It can be performed
using a variety of instruments and styles and is divided into
genres such as folk, jazz, hip hop, pop, and rock, etc. As an art
form, music can occur in live or recorded formats, and can
be planned or improvised.
The performing arts often aim to express one's emotions and
feelings.
3. Auditory Arts/ Music
Music is an art form and cultural activity whose medium is
sound organized in time. General definitions of music include common
elements such as pitch (which
governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated
concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics (loudness and
softness), and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture (which are
sometimes termed the "color" of a musical sound).
As a Form of Entertaiment
 "Composition" is the act or practice of creating a song,
an instrumental music piece, a work with both singing and
instruments, or another type of music.
 In the 2000s, music notation typically means the written
expression of music notes and rhythms on paper using
symbols. When music is written down, the pitches and rhythm
of the music, such as the notes of a melody, are notated. Music
notation also often provides instructions on how to perform the
music.
 Musical improvisation is the creation of spontaneous music,
often within (or based on) a pre-existing harmonic framework
or chord progression. Improvisation is the act of instantaneous
composition by performers, where compositional techniques
are employed with or without preparation.
 Music theory encompasses the nature and mechanics of music.
It often involves identifying patterns that govern composers'
techniques and examining the languageand notation of music.
4. Literary Arts
The Literary Arts relate to the written word and include
writing, editing, critiquing, teaching, reviewing, and other
activities related to written communication. These activities take
place in a variety of settings, such as classrooms, writers'
workshops/centers, book and magazine publishing companies, and
libraries. The "book arts" are related to a book's physical
presentation and can involve its paper, binding, printing, or design.
Literature is literally "acquaintance with letters" as in the first
sense given in the Oxford English Dictionary. The noun
"literature" comes from the Latin word littera meaning "an
individual written character (letter)." The term has generally come
to identify a collection of writings, which in Western culture are
mainly prose (both fiction and non-fiction), drama and poetry. In
much, if not all of the world, the artistic linguistic expression can
be oral as well, and include
such genres as epic, legend, myth, ballad, other forms of
oral poetry, and as folktale. Comics, the combination of drawings
or other visual arts with narrating literature, are often called the
"ninth art" (le neuvième art) in Francophone scholarship.
