A. Introduction/Hook –
Tell the students that today they are going to get to work in their writing journals to help them
become great writers!
Our focus today is going to be drawing a picture.
B. Development –
Show the students a book
o Review that the author writes the words and the illustrator draws the pictures both
to share their ideas with you.
o For example this author wrote about ___________.
Today I want to teach you how to draw and write about something that really happened in
your life!
o The day my family got a dog
Model drawing a picture about your life event (getting a dog).
o Talk aloud while you draw about what you are drawing.
Then have students draw a life event they have had in their journals (a memory).
C. Closure –
Have students partner up and share what they drew about today.
Today and every day I would like for you to work on using your pictures and words to
share your ideas for others to see and hear!
