Why I Think I Should Get A Scooter

For my 17th birthday, I would like to get a scooter licence as a present. A scooter has many
advantages that will not only be beneficial for me right now but also in the future. When I turn
17 I am not only becoming a year older but I am also becoming more responsible. I will have to
prepare myself for adult things, such as university, living by myself, and with all of this
eventually getting my drivers licence. The best way to prepare for a drivers licence is to get a
scooter licence which is much safer.

In holland, it is much easier to get around using a scooter then by a car. Living in a large city like
The Hague, or like Rotterdam (which is what I am planning on doing) it is difficult to get around
by car due to the busy roads. Of course, biking is an option. However, living in Holland, it can be
extremely windy especially in the cities mentioned above. This makes biking much more
difficult and tiring then it should be. This also very often prevents me from being on time to
school or wherever else I have to be. A scooter, on the other hand, won't be affected as much by
the wind as a bike does. Having a scooter will allow me to get to school faster, get to meetings
faster, and in the future get to university on time and easier. Biking is also a great way to get
extremely sweaty before getting to your location. This can be seen as extremely unprofessional.
On the other hand, a scooter will allow you to get to places while still being relaxed and not
putting as much effort.

Having a scooter also bring many benefits to not only be but also the family. Since I have a
scooter it would be much easier to quickly go to the store, or go somewhere else when my family
needs me to. I would also be able to bring Laura to places or pick her up so that my parents do
not have to and they can relax.

A great concern of scooters can be that they are dangerous. However, a blue licence plate
scooter, which is what I would like to have, is allowed to go 25km/h max. While the average
biker bikes about 19
km/h. This means that a
scooter on average goes
6km/h faster than a biker. This is not a significant difference and does not make a difference in
safety. However, it does get you to places, as mentioned before, a bit faster, and using less effort.
The rules for bikers also apply to scooters. Since scooters are obligated to ride on the bike path it
does not make a difference in the rules that they both have to use.
To be able to get a scooter licence you would need to get the (rijbewijs AM) this is possible to
get from your 15th birthday. This
shows that the dangers are so limited
that it is allowed to start your driving
licence at a young age. The costs of
getting a scooter licence vary however,
the ones that I found cost 493,75 euros.
This is for the whole package,
including lessons, and praktijk.

After having received my scooter licence it would be possible to buy a scooter which can vary in
prices. However on the
website which I looked
at the scooter start at
700 euros. This can be
paid in 3 times instead
of directly without
having to pay any
interest. On top of this,
not all scooters are Sjonnie scooters, so I would not seem like white trash when riding a scooter.
Another thing which would need to be paid for would be the gas. However, this is something
which I would do using the money I get on a monthly and weekly basis.

In conclusion, be allowed to have a scooter for my birthday would bring a lot of benefits to not
only me but the family. It would be extremely beneficial at the moment but also in the future. It
would allow me to get to my education easily and faster than usual. This would cut down my
tardies by a great amount.
