Summative: Vietnam War Interview

Introduction: You are going to create an interview of a person involved in the Vietnam War.
You are responsible for coming up with the questions and answering the question using ONE of
the participants in the Vietnam War. People reading your interview should learn about what the
Vietnam War was like for the type of person.
Instructions:
Step one: Choose one of the participants of the Vietnam War.
-American Soldier (Specify whether they are volunteers or drafted)
-American Protestor
-Vietcong Soldier
-South Vietnamese Villagers:
Write a brief description of the participant:
-How old is the person in your interview?
-Where is the person from your interview from? North Vietnam, South Vietnam, or
America?
-How is he involved in the war?
Step 2: Create 7 questions to ask your chosen participant
The questions should tell the reader: How did the person get involved with the war? Who is their
enemy and how would they describe the enemy? Why is the war being fought and who is to
blame for starting it? What are their feelings about the war?
Requirements: -Make sure at least ONE of your questions is about how a character sees a
specific historical event (My Lai Massacre, Kent State Shooting, Operation Rolling Thunder,
Agent Orange, Tet Offensive, etc) in the Vietnam War. Not all events might be relevant to your
chosen participant
-Questions should be asked directly to the person you are interviewing.
Plan your questions here:
- Why are you opposed to the -
war? -
- How are you involved in the war? -
How does it affect you?
-
-
Step 3: Using the perspective of your chosen participant, you need to answer the questions in
detail.
-Avoid only giving one or two sentences answers. The more detailed your examples and
explanations, the higher the mark. Make sure you give reasons for your answer.
-You are allowed and encouraged to do some extra research online to look for additional
information besides the things we learned in class. Remember to cite the information you found.
-Make sure to include at least 5 of the vocabulary we learned in class in the answers to
your interview questions. Make sure to bold the vocabulary words
Step 4: Conclusion (Use TEPAC)
Answer in a paragraph: Would your chosen participant be supportive of the Vietnam War?
Explain your answer in detail. For your example part of the paragraph, you can quote your
answers from the interview part.
