1. What is Afro-Asian literature?

- It is a term for writing written by people from mixed African-Arab


ethnicity, or African-Asian ethnicity.

- It mirrors not only the customs and traditions of African and Asian
countries but also their philosophy of life which on the whole are deeply and
predominantly contemplative and hauntingly sweet.

-It is the reflection of the storm and the stress of developing nations
seeking a place under the sun which every student must understand so he
may know how this literature affects the history and culture of a nation.

- It refers to the literary output of the various countries and cultures in


Africa and Asia. This includes their oral traditions and from the first to the
contemporary written and/or published prose and poetry.

3. Enumerate the norms and culture associated with the aforementioned


countries.

Norms and Culture in Morocco:

•A woman must extend her hand first when greeting a man. If she does
not initiate the greeting, the man must respectfully bow his head.
•Being part of a more conservative culture, it is the social norm for
Moroccan people to wear clothing that covers the knees and shoulders.
•Many women wear head coverings, as it is a part of their culture and of
the Islamic faith.
•Alcohol is not very common because Moroccans do not drink.

Norms and Culture in Egypt:

• People often arrive late for appointments, and it is advised not to


overbook your schedule.

•Job satisfaction is very important, especially with Egypt being in an


economic crisis.
•A well off family is perceived better within their community and is often
granted special treatment.

•They practice the religion of Islam using the Quran as their sacred
book. Like Christianity Islam teaches that there is one god in the universe
(Allah). Prophets were simply messengers of Allah and not divine in any way.
Based on the Quran, Allah created man from a clot of blood, with free will for
the purpose of serving and obeying god.

Norms and Culture in Russia:

•Age gap couples are the norm in Russia.

• Religion matters and even non-believers respect the church.

• Before religious holidays, there is fasting.

• Russians respect religious holidays, but their favourite one is the non-
religious New Year’s Eve.

4. What are the characteristics of Afro-Asian literature?

-Afro-Asian Literature is a term for novels or writing such as poems written


by people from mixed African-Arab ethnicity, or African-Asian ethnicity. In
modern times, a a part of world literature, Afro-Asian literature is a separate
segment of writing [in English] of experiences in African and Asia to further
cultural understanding and world peace. Afro-Asian literature is the literature
from whole Africa and Asia. These literatures include stories, myths and
others.

5. What are the common themes associated with afro-asian literature?

- One of the most consistently appearing themes in Asian literature is the


celebration of nature and life. From African folktales to transcendentalists,
nature is often regarded as almost holy. Philosophers and religious figures both
also tended to draw from nature, specifically reincarnation and the cycle of life,
which includes death, birth, and aging. Asian writers often portray this in
poetry among other forms of literature.
