Madurai Kamaraj University
Madurai Kamaraj University, is on its relentless journey for the past 53 years
surmounting hurdles of indigenous and exotic nature on its way and has passed through
the tests of accreditation towards reaching the status of excellence. The University is
aware that the process of achieving excellence is continuous and therefore, efforts are in
progress to keep up the momentum.
The University came into being through a bill passed in the Legislative Assembly
of the State in the year 1965. Thus, it is a statutory university owned and funded by the
Government of Tamil Nadu and the University Grants Commission. MKU is a member of
Association of Indian Universities and one of the nine universities in India awarded with
a status of University with Potential for Excellence. The present Manonmaniam
Sundaranar University, Alagappa University and Mother Theresa University are the off-
shoots of Madurai Kamaraj University. As on date, it covers four revenue districts of
Madurai, Virudhunagar, Dindigul and Theni for its regular academic programme.
The University has a modernized central Library with 3 lakhs books, 15,000 e-
journals, 3,000 e-books, 55,000 reference and text books. The one Gbps internet
connection, INFONET centre with 50 nodes and smart class rooms have enriched the ICT
enabled teaching and learning.
The University has established linkages with community around through its
various outreach activities. The National and International level connectivity and
visibility of this University is a pointer that it is moving towards attaining the status of
University of Excellence.

Eligibility for Admission to UG Courses:
1. Higher Secondary School Examination (Plus 2 or XII Std. including vocational
courses) conducted by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu.
2. Two year Foundation Course Examination conducted by Madurai Kamaraj
University and Annamalai University with eligibility to join the degree courses.
3. Pre/University Examination of Madurai Kamaraj University or an Examination
equivalent thereto conducted by any other statutory recognized University /
Board.
5. The IAF Educational Test for promotion to the Rank of Corporal conducted by
the Directorate of Education, Air Head Quarters, New Delhi.
7. Indian School Certificate Examination conducted by the Council for the Indian
School Certificate Examination, New Delhi. A pass in one or more sittings,
(i.e., in compartment) provided the candidates has been declared to have
qualified with a minimum of FIVE subjects of which English should be one and
satisfies the age rule prescribed by the University.
8. The 12 year School Diploma of High School / Graduation conducted by the
Kodaikanal School, Kodaikanal.
9. A pass in the following examinations conducted by the State Board of Technical
Education and Training of Govt. of Tamil Nadu, Chennai.
a. The two year Diploma Course in Commercial Practice or Diploma in
Modern Office Practice.
b. Pre-Technical Examination.
c. I and II year Sandwich Diploma Examination in Mechanical
Engineering.
d. Three – year Diploma (after X Std.) – Civil, Mechanical, Electrical,
Electronics,
Textile, Fisheries, Commerce, Architecture, Assistantship, Catering Technology etc.

Note:
a) A candidate who has obtained ‘CONDITIONAL PASS’ in the Pre-Technical
Examination is NOT eligible.
b) A candidate who has passed the First Year Examination of the 3 year Diploma
Courses
(i.e., D.C.E. etc.,) prior to 1963 is NOT eligible.
10. a) National Defence A pass at the Academic Examination at the end of the
Academy first two years of Training.
b) Indian Military Academy
11. Those who have completed the Seven-year course of study conducted at the following
Seminaries:
a. Sacred Heart Seminary, Poonamallee.

Eligibility (for the UG courses serial number from 1 to 8):
Pass in Higher Secondary (10 + 2) or 3 year diploma
* -Training Programme: A Training Programme is conducted at the end of each year of the
course for six days at Madurai. Attendance in this Training Programme is compulsory.
Internal marks will be awarded at the end of the each Programme for a maximum of 100
marks and the passing minimum is 35marks.The venue and the date of training programme
will be intimated to the students individually in advance.
Eligibility:
a) A pass in the Higher Secondary Examination (+2), conducted by the
Government of Tamil Nadu or any other examination as equivalent thereto.
b) A pass in three year Diploma Course conducted by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu.

Government of Tamil Nadu or any other examination as equivalent thereto.

11. B.Com.,
Eligibility:
A pass in the Higher Secondary Examination (+2) with Commerce /
Accountancy group conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu or any other
examination as equivalent thereto.
12. B.L.I.Sc.,
Eligibility:
Any Degree of Madurai Kamaraj University or any other recognized
University.
Note: A Campus Programme to provide practical training to candidates will
be conducted and this will be followed by Practical Examination.
These will be conducted only at Madurai. Students will be informed
about the place and dates of campus programme and practical
examinations.

b) M.A. or M.Sc. degree in any branch of this University or any other recognized
University for additional degree.
c) Those qualified for M.A. degree and desire to improve their marks and class
already obtained, shall undergo the course for two years.
* -i) Training Programme: A Training Programme is conducted at the end of each year of
the course for seven days at Madurai. Attendance in this Training Programme is compulsory.
Internal marks will be awarded at the end of the each Programme for a maximum of 100
marks and the passing minimum is 50 marks. The venue and the date of training programme
will be intimated to the students individually in advance.
ii) Project Work:The student has to carry out a project during the Second Year of the course
and submit the Project Report at time of attending the Training Programme.

2. B.A/B.Sc.(Ed.) of Mysore University (Four year Integrated Course) with English
as one ofthe subjects, Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Economics and Co-operation
conducted by the National Council for Higher Education, New Delhi.
3. Those qualified for M.A., (English Literature.) and desire to improve class already

**** For PGDCA students, practical classes will be conducted with the help of computing
facilities available in the University/Engineering Colleges/Polytechnics at various centres and
the centres will be fixed depending on the strength of the students. Regarding practical
examination, the candidates will be informed individually. Attendance in Contact Seminar
Programme is Compulsory. Candidates with a minimum of 80% attendance alone will be
permitted to take up the examination. Practical fee for private candidates appearing for
practicals in the subsequent year is Rs.1075 for I lab, and Rs.215 for II labs.
