Introduction to Operations Management - I

Prof. B Mahadevan
Importance of Operations Management

Prof. B. Mahadevan: Dharani, happy to see you here. So, why do you need Operations Management for
organizations like you?

Dharani Babu. V: Well professor, Operations Management is where the corporate strategy is actually
converted into action. Otherwise, corporate strategy is a statement. So, that is with the value and with the
efficiency, it is converted into the operations in the most important three spheres of cost, quality and delivery.
And, the whole thing is controlled and measured to give the co–give the whole organization the competitive
advantage to be the market leader.

Prof. B. Mahadevan: So, if operations management has not been there let's say in your factory, what would
happen?

Dharani Babu. V: We can't predict. The whole thing will go unpredictable. For example, one day there can be
extraordinary performance and other day there can be a disaster. So, Operations Management ensures and
controls a sustainable delivery of . . . most efficient . . . operation and it will help us to improve day by day on
the previous performances.
