THE PROBLEM

Introduction

In the change of modernization in our country, there was development in the field of

technology, medicine and also the development of education in the Philippines. Education is having a

significant role in the lives of children as they grow. The parent said to their children is that education is

the only treasure that they can give. One of the changes of modernization is the added of Senior High

School in the basic curriculum of education in the Philippines where the students need to choose their

track and strand which is similar in choosing course in college. In Pagbilao National High School the

availability of senior high school strand is limited. The school only have Technical Vocational Livelihood

(TVL), Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMMS),and General Academic Strand (GAS). This incoming

school year 2019-2020 the school itself will pursue the other strands such as Accountancy and Business

Management (ABM) Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Shielded Metal Arc

Welding (SMAW)

In the implementation of K-12 curriculum in the system of education in the Philippines as a

result of this it caused confusion in other people especially the concept of Senior High School. A

presentation of K-12 (Olaya 2017), Senior High School is the two last year of K-12 program. Under the

Senior High School all of students is benefited in one Core curriculum. Olaya (2017) also mentioned that

this program is the recognized standard for the students and professional worldwide.

Formoso (2016) explain that there have a Four track in Senior High School which is the

Academic Track, Technical Vocational Livelihood (TVL) track, Sports Track and the Arts and Design

Track. Included in Academic track is the four strand which is the Science, Technology, Engineering and

Mathematics (STEM) , Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) , Humanities and Social Sciences

(HUMMS) and the General Academic Strand (GAS). Like in Academic Track, there is also four strand

included in Technical, Vocational and Livelihood (TVL) Track, it is the Home Economics (HE) ,

Information , Communication and Technology (ICT) , Agri-Fishery Arts and Industrial Arts. Many

strands can be chosen by students for their senior high school so students get confuse in what strand they

want and what strand would fit in their ability.

 Simultaneously with the change and development of the education system caused by K-12 is its

effect, there are some who think it is negative and others are positive. According to Department of

Education(2015) Senior high school assures you that you have enough knowledge ability and skills for the

preparation after Senior high school, this study is important to give an idea and knowledge to the next

senior high school students in choosing the right strand for them.

The researchers would like to pursue this study because they would like to know what are the

factors that affect the choice of strand of selected students and what would be the solution for these.
 THE PROBLEM

Introduction

Children need to get a high quality education ,but quality of education depends on school facilities

and instructional materials .The quality of a school environment and its facilities has a strong influence to

the students. School facilities can be defined as those things that can help to student to learn easily and for

teacher to enable do his /her work very well. School facilities can have a profound impact on both teacher

and students . The students are mostly affected because of insufficiency of facility. It affect their academic

performance every year. The amount of student increase but the facility remain the same .Pagbilao

National High School have a lot of insufficiency in terms of facility specially in hygiene and sanitation

equipment ,learning materials like library, computer laboratory.

The dearth of instructional material is affecting students performance, according to the report given

to the board of education, lack of instructional material, is affecting core topic such as Math, English,

History and science. According to the Manila times lack of facilities is just one of the problems facing the

education department ahead of the opening classes on June 4, with the increasing populations of students

in public elementary and high school nationwide. The ideal student to classroom ratio 1:35 and 1:45 for

elementary and high school. Department of education(DepEd) Under secretary Tonisito Umali said school

in Metro Manila find it nearly impossible to achieve the ideal student-to-classroom ratio. Some school in

Metro Manila is double shifting. The DepEd said that about 27 million in elementary and high school

students were expected to shown up when classes open on June 4(2018). Facility quality is an important

predictor of teacher retention and student learning. We were not just speaking about the buildings

themselves, but what we need these buildings for the knowledge creation and transfer of learning,

Filardo(2008).

The researchers want to pursue this study because they would like to know of how the insufficiency

of facility affect the student behaviour and their academic performance.

What instructional brochure can be derived base on study?

Assumptions

1. That physical factor affect the choice of selected grade 10 students of PNHS?

2. That social factor affect the choice of strand of selected grade 10 students of PNHS?

2. What are the effects of facility insufficiency to the student of Pagbilao National High School?

3. Does the facility insufficiency affect the student of Pagbilao National High School?

4. What Informative reading materials can be derived based on the findings of the study ?

Assumption

1. That facility insufficiency affects to the students of Pagbilao National High School.

2. That the researcher observe that Pagbilao National High School sanitation and learning facilities are

insufficient.
