Where did the tropical cyclones

form?On land or in the ocean?

Only tropical cyclones that
form over the Atlantic Ocean or
eastern Pacific Ocean are
called "hurricanes." Whatever
they are called, tropical
cyclones all form the same
way. Tropical cyclones are like
giant engines that use warm,
moist air as fuel. That is why
they form only over warm
ocean waters near the equator.
What can you say about the temperature of
the bodies of water in the vicinity of the
Philippines? Is the water warm or cold?
• The waters of the
Philippines are mostly warm,
especially at sea level this is
due to the country's location
on the planet. ... You will find
streams that have cool
running water, the
temperature in these places
are much lower because of
their higher elevation and
the dense jungle
surrounding them.
In what direction did the tropical
cyclones move?
• In Northern Hemisphere,
Tropical latitudes have
the upper level winds
moving in a east to west
direction, this steers the
cyclones in the same
direction. Due to Coriolis
effect from the rotation of
the earth, this takes a
northerly component
making cyclones to travel
slightly along the north.
Which part of the philippines was
hit by the four tropical cyclones?
• Island Bohol
• Mindanao
• Palawan
In case of Agataon, Yoyong and
Huaning, where did they die out?
Near land or in the middle of the
ocean?
• They die out near land.
Because they loses energy as
they pass through lands and
there will no longer be warm
water that will keep them from
moving.
Tropical cyclones need water vapor
in order from. Which is a better
source of water vapor, landmass or
oceans?
• Oceans because
water vapor
came from water
where is very
abundant in
ocean.
Where do you think would evaporation be
the greatest near equator or away from the
equator?
• Near the equator
because the heat
the sun is
directly facing
the equator.
What are the requirements for a
tropical cyclone to develop?
• There are six main
requirements for tropical
cyclogenesis: sufficiently
warm sea surface
temperatures, atmospheric
instability, high humidity in
the lower to middle levels of
the troposphere, enough
Coriolis force to sustain a low
pressure center, a preexisting
low level focus or disturbance,
and low vertical wind
Do you thinks typhoons can form in
latitudes away from the equator?why
or why not?
• They can, because since the Coriolis force
is zero at the Earth's equator, typhoons
canonly form at latitudes that are more
than about 10 degrees north or south of
the Earth's equator. Due to the Coriolis
force, the winds in a typhoon spiral in the
counter-clockwise direction in the northern
hemisphere when observed from above.
