Review about simple sentence
Ask 3 volunteer students to come in front.
Ask: What do you notice with the pupil standing in front relating it that ajn
independent clause can stand alone connected with a conjunction and
another independent clause
Note: These pupils will have a name tag independent clause 1, conjunction,
independent clause 2
Discuss about compound sentences
Rules in writing compound sentences

Introduce about FANBOYS
Display Simple sentences and explain to students that you want to combine the
simple sentence to create compound sentence.
Rewrite the sentence, and point out that compound sentence must have a comma
before the coordinating conjunction.
Repeat the process with more sets of sentences that require a variety of
coordinating conjunctions
Group pupils into two.
Give each team a slate board and each team should create a compound sentence
1 student will create a simple sentence and the other should give the proper
coordinating conjunction and a sentence to make a compound sentence.

correct conjunction and other independent clause to make a
compound sentence.
