SCHOOL
SIXTH FORM
PROSPECTUS
2020-2021
I wanted to say how impressed we have
been with the Sixth Form induction
process at Tiffin. I imagined that it would
take a little while to feel at home in a
new school, especially joining at 16, but
it has been wonderful to see how happy
and inspired he has been from the very
beginning; and how welcome the new
students have been made to feel.
PARENT OF NEW STUDENT
WELCOME
We are delighted that you are considering our Sixth Form at Tiffin
School. We would love you to join us and we look forward to
the energy and enthusiasm you will add to our already thriving
community. Everyone is new to Year 12; whether joining the Sixth
Form from Tiffin or from another school, we offer you a daily
invitation to join in, work hard and enjoy a relaxed environment
designed for young adults of the 21st century. As a Tiffin Sixth
Former you will be encouraged to hone and develop your talents
and discover new interests, as well as doing the things you already
know you love. We can provide an atmosphere in which you can do
this and which fosters intellectual freedom and independence.
Please take the opportunity to attend our Sixth Form Open Evening
where you will have an opportunity to tour the school, attend
A Level subject talks, discuss options with staff and get a feel for
our warm and lively atmosphere.
GUIDANCE
Happy here, no regrets, top
marks from me.
NEW STUDENT
AND
SUPPORT
Pastoral care, guidance and support is very important; Sixth Form
students are members of a small tutor group, under the supervision
of a Personal Tutor who provides pastoral support and care
to students, as well as monitoring academic progress. One of the
key roles of the Tutor is to develop the social and moral dimension
of their tutees, aiming to ensure that all sixth formers reach their
potential as citizens, academic students, leaders, and team players.
We also have a School Counsellor and School Nurse and the
Head of Year is available as a point of contact. Students can be assured
that if they have any concerns there will always be someone to talk to.
PARENT OF NEW STUDENT Our instinct is to regard students as young adults and as you
progress through the Sixth Form you will be given increasing
amounts of freedom to make your own choices. We feel it is vital
that you develop the self-discipline and maturity that will be needed
once you have left school.
SPORTS
The school has an excellent record for Sport, as well as state
of the art facilities. The Sports Centre is currently undergoing
a £2m extension to provide additional fitness and weights suites,
and upgraded changing facilities to add to our 3G Astroturf pitch,
Boathouse and extensive playing fields at Hampton Court. We run
teams that play matches most weeks during the season. We are
one of only eight state schools to offer Rowing and compete at
the highest level, and we produce excellent Badminton, Table Tennis,
Cross-Country Running, Athletics, Rugby, Cricket and Tennis teams,
while most other sports are catered for through the extensive
inter-house sports programme.

LEADERSHIP
AND
RESPONSIBILITY
Two other elements are key to the success and relevance
of producing well rounded young people. Firstly, Sixth Form
students are encouraged to take on responsibilities and develop
their leadership capabilities: the House system runs seventeen
competitions each year and enables Sixth Formers to work
with and lead younger students, as well as compete themselves.
Through the School Council, Sixth Formers play a fundamental
role in developing Tiffin and policies which directly affect students
and co-ordinating all fundraising activities. Sixth Formers may also
become Senior Prefects or Mentors, which involves significant
responsibility but reaps great rewards. Secondly, the school believes
that educational trips and visits are essential to effective learning.
In the Sixth Form, there are a large number of field trips, European
visits and exchanges, day trips and sports and activity-based trips
and tours which take place across the year.
