VOLCANIC PRESENTATION DESIGN BRIEF-YR 6

INTRODUCTION

There are a
number of
Volcanoes located
around the Earth.
Each of them has
been formed in a
unique range of
ways.
Researchers need to understand
Volcanoes, how they work, and the
likelihood of more eruptions to help keep
people safe. It can also tell them about
other natural processes which may be
occurring like shifting tectonic plates.

The problem with this however, is that we


usually only find about this information
after its too late. In order to fix this issue,
you can become special class geologists
and experts about a certain Volcano.
You can teach all of us about important
facts and information we need to know
about this particular volcano and even if
it might erupt again. Its your job to keep
our class safe!

DESIGN BRIEF
In groups of three, your are to design a presentation in a form of your choice, to help educate
your fellow peers about your selected Volcano! You are to use materials provided to construct
a visual representation of the Volcano in the form of a physical model or a diagram, as well as
the inclusion of ALL project specifications in your presentation.

You can present this information in any way you like; PowerPoints, Posters, Display Boards,
Websites, the list is endless! Make sure you ‘OK’ your plan with your teacher before beginning
construction of your masterpiece!

Different Volcanoes have slightly different structures depending on the type of Volcano that it
is. Make sure you have a clear way of representing its unique structure! You also need to
conduct another test of the viscosity of the lava in relation to your unique Volcano. This test
was completed in our second lesson, so refer back to your journals for information on how to
conduct this experiment properly.

Project Specifications Checklist:


These are features that MUST be included
 The name of your Volcano and how active it is
 Where its located on the planet
 How it formed and what type of Volcano it is
 Clearly labelled diagram or diorama of your volcano
 The type of lava viscosity at the site of the Volcano
 The affect the lava has on the surrounding landscape
 Pro’s and Con’s lists specific to your Volcano
 A prediction about the change of the landscape as a result of
5 different eruptions accounting for the viscosity and shape of
the Volcano currently.
Challenge:
If you have managed to finish all of that, here’s a challenge task for
you!
 Make an educated guess or prediction as to when the next
eruption may actually occur in real life based off its current
activity levels. You need to justify your answer.

 Does my presentation have all required

 Is it presented in a fun and unique way?


 Is the information presented from a
reliable source?

 Did the ‘lava’ affect the landscapes as


you predicted it to?
 Did you record your results effectively
and precisely?
