Lightweight galvanized steel is known for its durability that can last for a long years.
Galvanize steel is can be reused and recycled, it can help us reduce using of raw materials.

Lumber is known for it 100 percent natural materials, but when it comes to durability,
wood will not last for many years. During post building phase wood can either be reuse or
become a waste. One concern of wood is its maintenance, it can be additional cost for the
maintenance and labor.

Technically called composite shingles, standard asphalt shingles are moderately durable
and can offer good heat reflectivity, depending on the shingle design and color. They are made
with paper, fiberglass, minerals, and tar and other petroleum products. Some companies and
municipalities make use a discarded asphalt shingles, but for the most part, old shingles are not
widely recycled and are not biodegradable. Some company offered lifetime warranty because of its
durability (Bernard, 2019). Asphalt shingles can last 20 years. The R-value of wood is
approximately 2.5 per inch of thickness.

Although metal roofs are energy-intensive to produce, they are attractive and long-lasting,
and they often contain high recycled content or are easily recyclable at the end of their lifetime.
Metal roofs can reflect some heat to reduce heat gain, but they must be insulated properly because
metal is highly conductive of heat. The most common metal roofing materials are steel and
aluminum. Metals are made with materials mined from the earth and therefore are not technically
sustainable. The R-value of steel is approximately 0.0031 per inch of thickness. Life span of
metal roof is about 40-70 years.

Also known as terra cotta, clay tiles are also extremely durable as well as heavy and
expensive. Authentic clay tile are made with natural clay that is shaped and fired, similar to
ceramic tile. Some tiles receive special glazes or paints for color or other added properties. Clay
used for tiles is such a plentiful resource that many clay tile manufacturers claim their products to
be sustainable (Bernard, 2019). R-Value for earth, Dirt and soil is about R 0.125 to R 0.25. Life
span of clay roof is 100 years.
