CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

The LGBTQ have become so much part of a vocabulary that

most people stop rarely to consider their meaning. Popular usage

defines gay as pertaining to individuals interested in “same

sex” physical relationship. When the homosexuality or the LGBTQ

community is mentioned in the media it is often referred to as

an “alternative life-style. (Don Schmierer 1985)

LGBTQ community had been rampant this days, many of them

was so very talented and gifted, no wonder they will be the one

of the reasons or key to our society success. As what we

observe, LGBTQ Community has their own way on how they act and

show their abilities. Gays are usually entertainers or

performers, Lesbians has a different talent that can be use and

can give additional contributions to our society and

institutions.

The young men and women who struggle with homosexuality are

faced with heartbreaking spiritual concern. They usually feel

cut off God, unable to reconcile their “gay” persona.

Psychologist Stanton Jones and Mark Yar House of Wheaton college

state those eighty years of genuine research suggest strongly

that homosexuality is quite changeable (www.amazon.com/ounce).

The phrase “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer

community” (or LGBTQ Community) refers to a broad coalition of

groups that are diverse with respect to gender, sexual

orientation, race/ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. Thus

while this report focuses on the community that is encapsulated

by the acronym LGBTQ, the committee wishes to highlight the

importance of recognizing that the various populations

represented by “L”, “G”, “B”, “T”, and “Q” are distinct groups

each with its own special capability.

There are also municipalities established organizations for

the LGBTQ community to express their talents and abilities which

can be helpful in our society. In Poblacion, Mahayag, Zamboanga

Del Sur, they have this organization called “Mahayag Angels”

with the presidency of Mr. Jason Cajote. The organization

focuses on reaching out and extending help to those people in

need and feed the hungry children. They also conducted

entertaining activities which showcase the talents and

uniqueness of the LGBTQ Community. The organization endeavors to

attain equality among people especially to avoid gender

discrimination.
 This study was conducted to reveal the impact and

contributions of the LGBTQ community in gaining respect in the

society especially in Poblacion, Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aimed to determine the impacts and contributions

of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Community in

in gaining respect in the society of Poblacion, Mahayag,

Zamboanga Del Sur.

Particularly it aims to answer the following questions:

1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:

1.1 age

1.2 profession

1.3 interest

2. What are the contributions of the LGBTQ Community in the

society?

3. How does LGBTQ community influence the youth in terms of:

3.1 motivation

3.2 societal influences

3.4 respect
HYPOTHESIS

There is a significant relationship between the responses

of the respondents to the positive impacts and contributions of

the LGBTQ community in gaining respect in the society.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

This study focuses on the LGBTQ community condition of

today’s generation and involvement of LGBTQ community in

Poblacion, Mahayag, Zamboanga Del Sur. The respondents are the

fifteenth (15) randomly selected LGBTQ members from Poblacion,

Mahayag, Zamboanga Del Sur. The study covers four months of data

gathering from June to September, 2018-2019.

This was delimited to the straight male and female in the

said baranggay.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The finding of this study would be of great help the

following individuals:

Community. This research will broaden their knowledge and

help them accept the fact that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgender, Queers are human being also. That they can
