Abstract

Now a days online shopping is the getting much popular because it is easier then direct shopping.

Online shopping is a new idea and since the e-commerce protocol by the government of

Bangladesh. It has become much easier and is now popular in Bangladesh. A recent survey

shows that Bangladesh is an emerging market for the online sectors and it has a growing market

of around 2 billion BDT. New generation people are much more aware of the consequences of

online shopping but the majority of the population still depends on direct shopping.
Online Shopping vs Direct Shopping
Introduction

Online and direct shopping differentiates in various ways. However, they both are convenient ways

to shop. We believe that shopping preferences change depending on a person’s situation. We

noticed that many people are starting to prefer online shopping more than direct shopping. Online

shopping is most convenient for individuals that don’t have time to go to the store. 79% of U.S.

consumers shop online, up from just 22% back in 2000 direct shopping can be most convenient

for those who are rarely at home and don’t have time to compare prices. It’s especially convenient

for those who work outside of home and students on campus. Direct shopping can also be a lot

quicker since you don’t have to worry about shipping. All you have to do is grab the item you like.

Online shopping

The process of searching for and purchasing goods and services over the Internet through the use

of a web browsers referred to as online shopping. The main allure of online shopping is that

consumers may find and purchase items they need without ever needing to leave the house. Today,

almost anything can be purchased through online shopping.

Direct shopping

The shopping activity experienced with a physical existence in a brick and mortar store.
Advantages of Online Shopping

The Internet has revolutionized the way we shop. Because of the numerous advantages and

benefits, more and more people these days prefer buying things online over the conventional

method of going into stores. What are some reasons that many people love online shopping and

why is it so popular? Given below are some advantages of online shopping.

1. Convenience:

Customers can purchase items from the comfort of their own homes or work

place. Shopping is made easier and convenient for the customer through

internet. It is also easy to cancel the transactions.

2. Saves Time:

Customers do not have to stand in queues in cash counters to pay for the

products that have been purchased by them. They can shop from their home

or work place and do not have to spend time traveling. The customers can

also look for the products that are required by them by entering the key words or using search

engines.

3. Easy Payment:

Now we do not have to worry about carrying cash in our pockets because

online shopping lets you make payments online in a much easier, safer

and convenient way

4. Product Comparisons:

Companies display the whole range of products offered by them to attract customers with
different tastes and needs. This enables the buyers to choose from a variety

of models after comparing the finish, features and price of the products on

display, Sometimes, price comparisons are also available online.

5. No Crowds:

People hate crowds when they are shopping. Especially during festivals or special events, they

can be such a huge headache. Also, it tends to be more chaotic when there are

more crowds out and this sometimes makes us feel rush or hurried. Grumpy,

annoying, and smelly people also annoy me when I'm out shopping. Plus, parking

becomes a huge issue. All of these problems can be avoided when you shop online.

6. Fewer Expenses:

Many times, when we opt for conventional shopping, we tend to spend a lot

more than planned. There are other outside expenses on things like eating

out, transportation, and let's not forget impulse buys!

7. Price Comparisons:

Comparing and researching products and their prices is so much easier

online. Also, we have the ability to share information and reviews with other

shoppers who have firsthand experience with a product or retailer

Advantages of Direct Shopping

Online shopping is convenient, provides quick access to product reviews and makes price

comparisons easy, but it lacks two factors consumers value: human interaction and help. And

those advantages we can get from direct shopping and there are more advantages of direct

shopping. Given below are some advantages of direct shopping.

1. Authenticity:

Offline shopping is more authentic than online shopping. While buying the

product we can feel the texture of it and know what it’s like. We exactly

know what we are buying while buying anything offline. But in online

shopping, we don’t always know what exactly we are buying. This is

because what we see on the websites is not always what we buy when the product reaches us.

2. Taste and Preference:

The taste and preferences of the customer change from time to time. While

buying any product from a store we have the flexibility and the choice to

try out outfits. But while buying any product from a website we don’t have

this facility. Therefore, buying offline caters more to the changing taste and preferences of the

customers.

3. Bargaining:

In offline store a customer can do physical bargaining to the seller unlike

shopping online. In online shopping a customer cannot do bargaining as

the price of the product is fixed. Some of the customer purchased

products depending upon bargaining so they do not go for online shopping as they feel shopping

online is costlier than the market

4. Instant Gratification:

Perhaps one of the best reasons to shop in-store is the fact you can take your purchases home –

immediately. While there are some exceptions, with most online purchases you

will have to wait at least a couple of days or longer. Sure, it is easier to order

items, such as books, online, but when it comes to purchasing items such as

gifts, home décor, or clothing, there’s no comparison in experience when it comes to online vs.

direct purchasing

Disadvantages of Online Shopping

Online shopping — that glorious invention which allows people to buy things from the comfort

of their homes. No more travelling to multiple stores to find the right product; no more having to

deal with over-enthusiastic sales persons; no more standing in long lines at the checkout counter.

The e-commerce boom has certainly changed the way we shop for the better. But, like

everything else, the world of online shopping is not all roses. Despite all the efforts of e-

commerce companies to alleviate them, there are a few problems that customers still have to face

while shopping online. Given below are some disadvantages of online shopping.

1. Delay in Delivery:

Long duration and lack of proper inventory management result in delays in

shipment. Though the duration of selecting, buying and paying for an online
product may not take more than 15 minutes; the delivery of the product to customer’s doorstep

takes about 1-3 weeks. This frustrates the customer and prevents them from shopping online.

2. Additional charges:

How many times has it happened that you've spotted a great deal on a product and when you're

one click away from purchasing it you noticed an additional shipping

charge. This is commonplace on all e-commerce sites when your order

amount isn't high enough to qualify for free shipping. And even when it is, sometimes these

shipping charges are added on each individual product (if you're buying multiple products of

course) and not the collective order.

3. Touch and Feel of Merchandise:

Lack of touch-feel-try creates concerns over the quality of the product on

offer. Online shopping is not quite suitable for clothes, cars, machines and

some other things as the customers cannot try them on.

4. Shopping Experience:

The traditional shopping exercise provides lot of fun in the form of

show-room atmosphere, smart sales attendants, scent and sounds that

cannot be experienced through a website. Peoples generally enjoy

shopping. Consumers look forward to it as an opportunity to go out and shop.

5. Close Examination

A customer has to buy a product without seeing actually how it

looks like. Customers may click and buy some product that is
not really required by them. The electronic images of a product are sometimes

misleading. The colour, appearance in real may not match with the electronic

images. People like to visit physical stores and prefer to have close examination of

good, though it consumes time. The electronic images vary from physical

appearance when people buy goods based on electronic images.

6. Frauds:

Sometimes, there is disappearance of shopping site itself. In addition to above, the online

payments are not much secured. So, it is essential for e-marketers and

retailers to pay attention to this issue to boost the growth of e-commerce.

The rate of cyber-crimes has been increasing and customers’ credit card

details and bank details have been misused which raise privacy issues.

Customers have to be careful in revealing their personal information. The disadvantages of

online shopping will not hinder its growth, Online shopping helped businesses to recover from

the recession. Merchants should pay attention to the stumbling blocks and ensure secure payment

system to make online shopping effective, the following advice may be followed by the E-

merchants and by the online shoppers.

7. Quality Issues:

The biggest problem while buying things online is that you have no

guarantee of a product's quality. Reviews are not always reliable and all

the research can't assure you of a product's quality; fraudulent sellers who

intentionally mislead customers to increase sales are the prime reason for
faulty/sub-par products being sold online. With the volume of goods e-commerce companies

handle these days, it can be quite difficult for them to conduct quality.

Disadvantages of Direct Shopping

Like online shopping there are also some disadvantages of direct shopping. Given below the

disadvantages of direct shopping

1. A smaller number of choices:

There are limited numbers of choices when it comes to offline shopping.

The numbers of varieties are limited. The ranges of products available in

the shops are limited. Sometimes, the stocks are old and are up for discount

and sale. Basically, in offline or any shop we get less numbers of choices as it consists of manual

work. We have to choose in that a smaller number of materials due to manual factor.

2. Time consuming:

It takes a lot of time to go shopping to a store. Distance from home or

workplace to the store is time consuming. It is also time consuming while trying

out the outfits in a store or even going through other products. In off-line

shopping customer move one place to another and one shop to another in search of their desired

product.
3. Information:

What generally happens is that the information provided by a

shopkeeper isn’t correct. Also, this information doesn’t always suit

our needs. And we buy products according to what they say when we

ourselves don’t have adequate knowledge about the products. Such

purchases are based on goodwill when we happen to know the shopkeepers.

Which One is Best?

Both of the shopping style is best from our own perspective. But in Bangladesh online shopping

is less popular then direct shopping. Because people are less aware of the modern technology.

Some people usually shop from the local shops or some particular brands. But they are not

purchasing their products

from a shopping site

because of the lack of

information about the

online shopping. If the

government raise the more security and can provide more information to the consumers people

will eventually buy from the online shops.

Though direct shopping is more trustworthy and secure but from the perspective of modern

generation we can say online shopping is the best way to buy any product form anywhere. Online

shopping is the best but from the perspective of Bangladesh direct shopping is more popular and

it is considered as the best

Peoples React on Survey
Conclusion

As we can see in the following term paper which is given, we can assume that the online shopping

is the best way to shop in every way. Though direct shopping is trust worthy but for out benefit

and extra comfort we can choose to take the opportunity to buy from the online shopping. Now

a days online shopping is getting much popular then direct shopping
