REFLECTION
Code of Ethics (Article III)

The world of teaching is a complex path to take, it will take a person’s time, effort,
dedication, passion, skills and talent to become an effective educator. It will demand for a person
to know the strategies, tools and guides to develop. One guide to help teachers uphold integrity
within work is the Code of Ethics for Teachers which is a document consisting of principles to
guide teachers as they work. With Article III and its sections 1-8, it focused on the role of the
teacher to the community.
A quotation from an American actor, David Selby “We have to provide good teachers,
good environment, community involvement with schools.” which should be one of the goals of
the school to have quality education and good relationship with the community. After knowing the
Article III from Code of Ethics, I’ve felt the burden and pressure of being a teacher, every move
and you’ll be judged, every word you say will be used against you, every action should be
appropriate and teachers should live by the principles written in the Code of Ethics. I’ve felt how
much sense of responsibility should teachers possess in their profession. Indeed, teaching is not as
easy as others might see it. One of the sections that caught my attention was section 3 which is
about the activities that teachers should refrain of doing, personally, I think that it was fine since
it only wanted to remind teachers to set limitations, they are known to be the role models of the
community so children will look up to them and it will not be good if these young ones will see
drunk, smoking and a gambling teacher. Also, I have to bring out about Article IV that I have
admirations to teachers who were able to adapt to the community they are teaching, I know a lot
of teachers who were not able to reside to the area they are teaching but makes way to adapt to
new environment for their students’ sake.
After having knowledge of the Article III, at this early time, I realized that I should start
living by the principles taught by the Code of Ethics, I should take part as a future educator, I
should take part as an individual thinking about the future of the community I am living in.
