Faculty name: Charles G Martin M.Tech (Ph.D) Return of Assignment: 29/02/2016
All Questions are to be answered compulsorily and carry equal marks
UNIT-1& UNIT-2

1. a. Define Design? Briefly explain the design process of an aircraft with a flow chart.

b. Mention the performance parameter considered for designing an aircraft.

3. a. Classify the Total weight of the aircraft with a bar chart.

b. Plot a graph of empty weight fraction with take-off weight and explain salient points of the
graph.

b. Sketch the flight plans of commercial and typical Military aircrafts and explain different phases
in the aircraft.

4. Derive an expression for Wing Loading effect on Glide rate.

5. Derive and explain.

i) Wing Loading Effect on Range
ii) Effects of Aspect ratio on Aircraft performance
6 Typical Military Bomber of L/D =16,Warm up and takeoff fuel fraction is 0.97
Climb fuel fraction is 0.985,Cruise R =1500nm = 2778 Km,C=0.5/hr,V=0.6M (same for both the
cruise condition),1st Loiter E = 3hrs,C=0.4/hr,2nd Loiter E=1/3 hrs. Landing Fuel fraction is 0.995.
Estimate Take off to Lading Fuel Fraction , Wf /W0, and if We/W0=0.93 W0-.07 Guess the value of
W0.
