The Text is an article written by a college student Ilhan, from darlcagle.com. Omar for
the argument of Daryl Cargale’s cartoon conflicts and its purpose is to convince and persuade
the readers to support Cargle with his cartoon publishing, as he is involved in controversies,
protesting The text is intended for the Gargle fans who appreciate his work. Readers can
observe that the beginning of the article is a cartoon with white text, using as a rhetoric
question to make the text appealing and make the reader interested.
This cartoon got published in the college newspaper which lead to it receiving a lot of
backlash. This blog was posted on the cartoonists’ site, Darylcagle.com and provides the
responses of other personalities who reacted to this mess. This essay will talk about to what
extend was this cartoon successful in creating a stereotype and did the writer provide a
balanced view point of the argument. The newspaper readers, the subscribers of DarylCagle’s
cartoons might also be interested in all this mess as it effects them directly in a sense.
Because they have been reading these cartoons so this might reflect what kind of person are
they. Therefore, the purpose of this article the cartoonists wanted to clear their name so that
they don’t end up losing all their viewers. This mess had soiled their name, hence a response
was necessary.
Graphic portrays children Halloween as one of them jumps over the fence quoting “I
am going as an Illegal Immigrant” A boy dressed as a cowboy and girl as a fairy looking
normal but surely do fortify gender stereotypes, about a kid who has come dressed as an
illegal immigrant.. A controversial topic relating it to Trump kicking out Mexicans . Cagle
takes a biased approach towards defending Rick McKee who is an artist. The author of the
article takes a defensive stand on the whole situation as he tries and justify the acts of his
artist. The cartoon was used in the Daily Illini at the time of Trump’s presidential campaign,

a time when immigrants were treated as the true roots of immorality in the society, therefore
making the topic venerable and it being published in a eminent newspaper made the cartoon
make headlines. In the response the authors users harsh words informal tone as he claims,
”There’s nothing racist about the cartoon and the notion that people should come to this
country legally is an opinion that is widely held by many Americans”, the audience realize by
this quote is that this idea is held by many Americans that a person should countenance by
the law and come to the country legally, while the aggressive tone might provoke the
audience and they might get offended by his graphics or cartoon.
As at the start article reads the apology letter by Daily Illini Newspaper Editors, curving
the mindset of the audience in Rick’s favour suggesting that it was the editors fault.
Furthermore, the writer makes his audience trust him in a way as he claims to have been
fascinated by the hate amongst unprejudiced and the conservatives. This make the audience
convinced Rick’s response making the audience agree and understand his views and actions.
As a support for his agreement, this was a good tactic used by the author.
In conclusion the cartoon published surely did create stereotypes about illegal
immigrants, some of them being they are evil and hold a lower stature in society. A narrow
minded apporaoch to the text. Tho, is was a kind of biased text but he tried to put a balance I.
